Kamehameha’s Sua-Godinet faces tough test

By Jason Kaneshiro on August 25, 2013

Saint Louis hasn’t been easy on new starting quarterbacks so far this season. The Crusaders shut out Baldwin, which is adjusting to life without Keelan Ewaliko taking snaps, in a 55-0 win on Maui to open the season. A week later, Kahuku sophomore Tuli Wily-Matangi completed two passes in eight attempts for 12 yards as the Red Raiders relied on their ground game to keep pace before Saint Louis pulled away to a 45-24 win. Following a bye, Saint Louis […]

Video: #8 Farrington at #6 Kamehameha

By Paul Honda on August 22, 2013

For this year’s Kalihi Bowl, let’s just say the highlights are one-sided. Kamehameha’s fortress is in lock-down mode. Any transgressors are severely punished.

Sua-Godinet key to Kamehameha’s title hopes

By Billy Hull on August 17, 2013

Kamehameha coach Doug Cosbie doesn’t have a lot to worry about defensively. Two games into his first season as Warriors head coach, Cosbie has watched his talented unit give up a total of three points in wins over Castle and Farrington. First-string running back Kaulana Apelu suffered an injury against the Knights, but after seeing the sixth-ranked Warriors beat up on No. 9 Farrington 38-3 on Friday night, running back depth isn’t a concern. Seniors Brandon Kahookele and Kainoa Simao […]

Update: Kamehameha 38, Farrington 3, final

By Paul Honda on August 16, 2013

7:12 p.m. JV game, Kamehameha won 10-7. Varsity is just starting. I’m expecting a low-scoring game. Kamehameha is learning a new system under new coach Doug Cosbie. The Warriors offense scored one touchdown in a 15-0 win over Castle last week. Farrington’s coming off a 33-16 loss to Waianae. 7:17 p.m. Long run by Kamehameha’s quarterback set up a touchdown pass that was called back by penalty (ineligible man downfield). 7:22 p.m. Third and long, nice rollout against a heavy […]

The recruiting website Scout.com released its inaugural Top 300 rankings for the Class of 2015 and it featured four current juniors from local high schools. Three of the four players listed are defensive ends, beginning with Punahou’s Canton Kaumatule, who is ranked No. 20 overall and third among all players at his position. Kaumatule, who opens his season Thursday night at Mililani, is listed at 6-feet-6, 260 pounds and has listed offers from Stanford, California, Mississippi, Oregon, UCLA, Utah and […]

Oahu’s rivalry week comes early

By Jerry Campany on August 12, 2013

These are your daddy’s preseason games. So often high school coaches approach preseason games the same way NFL coaches do, getting their starters in for a series or two and settling back to watch everyone else get a chance after that. But in the first week of 2013, it seemed everyone was going for the throat. Sure, Mililani used both its quarterbacks when coach Rod York has pledged that he will choose one to be the starter when games start […]

Alexander field grows up

By Jerry Campany on August 3, 2013

When Kamehameha beat Punahou 6-0 on October 31, 1903, it was the first meeting between the schools, and they have played either 179 or 180 times since, depending on if they played once or twice in 1977 (that still has to be researched). According to this list from Wikipedia … List of high school football rivalries (100 years+) … nothing else in the country even approaches the rivalry as far as number of games played. Nothing else, not even Harvard-Yale, […]

Kamehameha’s got a new quarterback

By Jerry Campany on August 3, 2013

With Makoa Camanse-Stevens gone to graduation, the Kamehameha football team is searching for a new quarterback. But that’s nothing new; the Warriors have had a different passing leader every year since Michael Hoke graduated following the 2007 season. Should sophomore Fatu Sua-Godinet win the job and hold on to it for his whole career, he would be the first 3-year starter at the position since Garrett Awai in 1983-1985. Passing leaders for the team for each year since 1973, with […]
