Video: #2 Kamehameha vs. #9 ‘Iolani

By Paul Honda on September 8, 2013

Part 1 Part 2 Goliath handled his business against David. The Raiders looked crisp and precise early with a scoring drive on their second possession. But Kamehameha sticks to what works well: hard-nosed defense and a battering-ram offense. Warriors running back Brandon Kahookele went for a career high 244 yards on 27 attempts, not far off the school record held by Chad Mahoe. See game action in parts 1 and 2, and post-game interviews in part 2.

Kamehameha kills clock, ‘Iolani

By Jerry Campany on September 7, 2013

Of all the drives that ended in touchdowns for Kamehameha in the Warriors’ win over ‘Iolani at Aloha Stadium on Friday night, one that didn’t end with a touchdown celebration might have been the most important. Kamehameha’s offense scored on four of its last six drives, settling for a field goal on their first one after halftime and taking a knee to end their last one of the game. The Warriors lined up to receive the second-half kickoff clinging to […]

Update: Kamehameha 38, ‘Iolani 22, final

By Paul Honda on September 6, 2013

7:48 p.m. Kickoff is a few seconds away. ‘Iolani to receive. 7:54 p.m. David vs. Goliath has begun. Raiders drive to the KS 20, drive stalls, 47-yard FG attempt is short. 7:59 p.m. Warriors no-huddle, hurry-up mode all on the ground, but the march stalls on a dead-ball personal foul call. Drive ends at the Raiders’ 30 on downs. 8:03 p.m. David scores on Goliath. The Raiders surgically maneuver around and through the Warriors with their hurry-up, no-huddle offense. Jordan […]

OK Kamehameha, we see you

By Billy Hull on August 31, 2013

Forget for a minute that I only considered the other two ILH Division I teams for my No. 1 ranking last week, but I went as far as to place Waianae ahead of Kamehameha. Oops. Even as Saint Louis held a 17-10 third-quarter lead against Kamehameha on Friday night at Aloha Stadium, I was already coming up with a way to justify moving the Warriors up on my ballot despite a potential loss. The Kamehameha secondary quickly made sure that […]

Update: Kamehameha 38, Saint Louis 17, final

By Paul Honda on August 30, 2013

9:13 p.m. This is turning out to be a defensive struggle. The game was scoreless until Christopher Quinn’s 20-yard field goal gave the No. 1 Crusaders a 3-0 lead early in the second quarter. Kamehameha drove patiently and scored on a screen pass from Noah Sua-Godinet to running back Brandon Kahookele for a 7-3 Warriors lead. Just a few plays later, however, Ryder Kuhns fired a bullet to wide receiver Drew Kobayashi on a simple sideline pattern, and Kobayashi went […]

Crusaders, Kamehameha might only get one shot

By Jerry Campany on August 29, 2013

For those old-timers who look forward to seeing Saint Louis and Kamehameha play each year, Friday might be their only chance. Because of the newly implemented playoffs in the ILH this could be the first time since 1968 that the Warriors and Crusaders meet up only once in a season.

Crusaders wary of being the team to beat

By Jerry Campany on August 27, 2013

When Saint Louis slapped Kahuku around in the fourth quarter of a showdown two weeks ago, Crusaders coach Matt Wright wasn’t a big fan of what it meant for his program. It was a good start, but there was so much more to work on. Sure, every team wants to be No. 1 at the end of the year. But taking the top spot early in August just gives opponents an extra incentive to knock a team off its perch. […]
