No. 4 Kamehameha All-State football

By Jerry Campany on August 4, 2014

The power running game is back at Kamehameha. Coach Doug Cosbie‘s smashmouth system was successful last year, but injuries forced him to split carries between Brandon Kahookele and Kainoa Simao, leaving them shut out of the Honolulu Star-Advertiser’s first team when All-State selections were announced. Looking back on selections of the past, having a 9-2 Kamehameha team virtually assures a spot among the elite. The Warriors have not had a running back on the first team since Ryan Ho in […]

Govs, Warriors clash in opening scrimmage

By Paul Honda on August 1, 2014

The future is so bright, sunglasses were in need on Thursday afternoon atop Kapalama Heights, where Kamehameha went to work. The Warriors suited up in full gear for a scrimmage with the Farrington Governors. After a summer of pass league games, constant workouts and intersquad contact, Thursday gave teams around the state a chance to knock around another team’s players for a change. Kamehameha didn’t suit up everybody. Defensive end/linebacker Mika Tafua sat out with a minor injury. Running back […]

Trench Warfare 6: Kaumatule vs. Kamehameha

By Jerry Campany on October 31, 2013

Trench Warfare is going to have to take a different approach in this one, as Punahou’s Canton Kaumatule takes on Kamehameha guards Radson Jang, Joshua Ancheta and a host of others. Kaumatule has rarely played this year, but he doesn’t miss the big games. Kamehameha runs a host of blockers at the beast, making a 1-on-1 matchup difficult. All judging is on the 10-point must system and completely subjective. Round 1 Kaumatule starts out against Jang, a junior. He shed […]

Trench Warfare 5: Mika Tafua vs. Jared Caputy

By Jerry Campany on October 30, 2013

This one is going to be either really fun or really boring, as Kamehameha’s Mika Tafua usually lines up all over the defense and they may rarely engage. His favorite spot is as a standup speed rusher from the left edge, though, so Punahou’s Jared Caputy might get more than a few shots at him. Tafua stands 6-3 and a slender 220 pounds while Caputy is 6-2 but weighs 250. IF these two superstars do hook up, we are in […]

Cosbie’s 1st season at Kamehameha a good one

By Billy Hull on October 30, 2013

In terms of trophies and titles, Kamehameha won’t have anything to show for coach Doug Cosbie‘s first season as head football coach. To say it wasn’t a success, however, would be just plain wrong. Kamehameha began the year regarded as the third-best ILH Division I team. When it’s all said and done, there’s a chance Kamehameha ends up ranked as the second-best team in the entire state when the final Star-Advertiser Top 10 poll comes out. The Warriors did it […]
