LIVE BLOG: #5 Kamehameha 33, Waianae 13, F

By Paul Honda on August 7, 2015

We are roughly 2 minutes from the coin toss for the varsity matchup. Finally. This game won’t start until 8:25 p.m., probably, and won’t end until 10:45 or so. I’m expecting a balanced attack from Kamehameha, and if it skews one way, probably 60 percent running the ball by the Warriors. Waianae? I think they’ll keep it basic and run 70-30. That combination would make it a fast game… but I wouldn’t be shocked to see Waianae go contrary to […]

Cosbie’s 2015 Kamehameha football staff

By Nick Abramo on August 5, 2015

Doug Cosbie is in his third season as the Kamehameha Warriors football head coach. The Warriors went 9-2 in 2013 and 5-3 in 2014. In scrimmages so far this season, Kamehameha, as usual, appears ready to contend for the Interscholastic League of Honolulu Division I title. It just so happens that the Warriors, ranked No. 5 in the Honolulu Star-Advertiser’s Preseason Top 10, will be competing for that title against No. 2 Saint Louis, No. 3 Punahou and No. 10 […]

Freshman Gabriel debuts for Trojans

By Nick Abramo on August 1, 2015

By all accounts, the Mililani offense downshifted when it turned to backup quarterback Dillon Gabriel on Saturday night. Ahoy, it would have been a downshift no matter who Trojans head coach Rod York threw in there. You simply don’t replace the value of McKenzie Milton in one night. Just not possible. Milton has been a mainstay at the position, a star, if you will, since his sophomore year and he has all sorts of stats and accolades to back up […]

Mililani backups edge Kamehameha

By Nick Abramo on August 1, 2015

It was all about the backups Saturday night as Mililani and Kamehameha squared off for a controlled football scrimmage at John Kauinana Stadium. The Trojans and Warriors starters played one series each in the scrimmage in which each team got 10 offensive plays in a row before the ball was turned over to the other squad’s offense. With the first-teamers on the field, Kamehameha scored on a 49-yard pass from Fatu Sua-Godinet to Kumoku Noa, and the Warriors’ defense stopped […]

Kamehameha, Farrington duel and dine

By Nick Abramo on July 31, 2015

It was a close encounter, and just a controlled scrimmage, but the Kamehameha and Farrington football teams finally got to put the pads on and see what it’s like to really compete for the first time this season on Thursday. No score was kept, and, unofficially, Kamehameha scored three TDs to Farrington’s two, but that statistic is beside the point. The contest represented the de facto battle of Kalihi. The two schools are 1.2 miles apart and many players know […]

Kamehameha LB Foster offered by UH

By Nick Abramo on April 15, 2015

Kamehameha linebacker Tainoa Foster received a scholarship offer to play football for the University of Hawaii in 2016, according to his coach Doug Cosbie. Foster also tweeted the news recently. “It’s still early in the process,” Cosbie said. “He’s getting a lot of attention and they offered him during the junior days (Saturday, when juniors were invited to watch the Rainbow Warriors during spring practice). “He’s a good player and has a big upside. He’s very long and very physical.” […]

By Paul Honda on March 3, 2015

The boys from the Hukilau Cafe 7-man team are back home from Las Vegas with memories — and priceless winnings — for a lifetime. The team, coached by Darren Johnson, went 9-1 in the Pylon Las Vegas 7v7 Tournament. The team was unbeaten in pool play, then reached the quarterfinals before falling 29-27 to eventual champion Ground Zero of Seattle, Wash., in Sunday’s championship bracket. The exposure for all of the Hukilau Cafe players was invaluable. Two of them, quarterback […]
