By Nick Abramo on January 14, 2016

Dennis McKnight, the former University of Hawaii assistant football coach, confirmed Thursday that he applied for the vacant Moanalua High head coaching job. McKnight said he is also going to apply at Kamehameha for the Warriors’ vacant head coaching job when the school begins accepting applications from candidates in the near future. Moanalua athletic director Joel Kawachi said Thursday that his job search is down to several candidates who are finalists, but he did not name them. He also did […]

Cosbie learned from some NFL masters

By Nick Abramo on December 25, 2015

Ever notice that Doug Cosbie is reserved? Unemotional? Ever wonder where he got it from? Well, it might be his natural personality. But, as a football coach, he certainly learned a bit of it from two of the NFL’s greatest coaches ever. Figuratively speaking, think of Cosbie donning the late Tom Landry‘s fedora and things may get a little clearer. Huh? Right? Right. That explains it all. Cosbie played 10 seasons under the unflappable Landry, so it’s obvious that more […]

Cosbie steps down at Kamehameha

By Hawaii Prep World on December 23, 2015

Doug Cosbie informed Kamehameha on Wednesday that he is stepping down as head football coach, effectively immediately, Hawaii Prep World has learned. Cosbie went 19-9 in three seasons at Kamehameha but was 10-7 in his last two years after going 9-2 in 2013. The Warriors finished 2-4 in the ILH in 2015, marking their first losing season in league since 2007. A phone call and text to Cosbie were not immediately returned. He later texted the Star-Advertiser to say he […]

By Billy Hull on November 28, 2015

Kamehameha senior Tainoa Foster has a big month of January ahead of him. The 6-foot-2, 205-pound linebacker — who holds offers from Hawaii, Washington State, Utah State and Fresno State — will take official visits to three different Division I schools in consecutive weekends in January. He’ll start with a trip to Pullman, Wash., on the 15th to visit the Cougars, who went 8-4 this season. ‘Iolani’s Keoni-Kordell Makekau is also scheduled to visit Washington State that weekend and more from […]

LIVE BLOG: Kamehameha 39, ‘Iolani 24

By Billy Hull on October 16, 2015

The season will end Friday afternoon for both ‘Iolani and No. 5 Kamehameha, which have been eliminated from postseason play. The Raiders will try to end the season with their only win in ILH play in their homecoming game against the Warriors, who will not play on despite a No. 5 ranking. ‘Iolani is expected to have RB KJ Pascua and WR Keoni-Kordell Makekau available for today’s game after both missed last week’s 31-7 loss to Saint Louis. This will […]

The ILH House of Blues

By Paul Honda on October 9, 2015

Ranked No. 5 statewide. Elite defense. Stellar special teams. Explosive offense even with a third-string QB. The Kamehameha Warriors won’t be part of the state football tournament, not after last night’s 26-23 loss to No. 1 Punahou. Another year, another heartbreak for teams — pick a sport — from the shark tank of ILH athletics. Kamehameha won’t be the last team to sing the blues this fall. Soon enough, perhaps by next week, another ILH — and state championship — […]

Kamehameha just couldn’t hold a lead

By Billy Hull on October 9, 2015

The Kamehameha Warriors have scored more points than they have given up in league play and are ranked fifth in the state. Yet, eight days into the month of October, Kamehameha was eliminated from postseason play with a 1-4 ILH record. How is that even possible? That’s the reality of playing in a four-team league that boasts there of the five best teams in the state according to the Honolulu Star-Advertiser Top 10 rankings. Kamehameha was eliminated by Punahou on […]
