Kamehameha’s big blue pool of patience

By Paul Honda on September 17, 2016

There are numbers — one win and two losses in conference play — and then there is hope. The Kamehameha Warriors are playing in a vacuum known as the Interscholastic League of Honolulu. There, even a .500 record is easy to overlook, even tough it would mean posting three wins over Top 10 teams. After a 35-3 loss to No. 2 Saint Louis on Saturday night at Aloha Stadium, Kamehameha’s sideline — the band, the cheerleaders, their spectators — all […]

Nerdpod: Quarterbacks, part 1

By Paul Honda on September 13, 2016

(Part 1 features a handful or so of quarterback summaries in no particular order. Part 2 will be posted later this weekend. Maybe. WRs and RBs next week, along with updated QB summaries.) Sometimes, numbers are nothing more than false representations of an athlete’s true value. Baseball? A hitter could be a .400 guy with nobody on base, but a .100 guy with runners in scoring position. Basketball? Take 30 shots a game, and a true scorer should be averaging […]

For Kamehameha, it’s about the ‘want to’

By Nick Abramo on September 11, 2016

Kamehameha got a pretty nice 50-20 home win over ‘Iolani on Saturday night and it served as a confidence-builder for the Warriors, who fell to Punahou 56-14 a week earlier. On the offensive side of the ball, things went smoothly on the ground and through the air. Kanoa Shannon rushed for 88 yards on 19 carries and Boogie Yam passed for two touchdowns and ran for two more. As a team, the seventh-ranked Warriors gained 540 total yards, 313 via […]

GAME NIGHT 9/10: ‘Iolani/Kamehameha

By Hawaii Prep World on September 10, 2016

Six high school football games on the same night as a Hawaii football home game? You bet. The lone ILH game takes place at Kunuiakea Stadium as No. 7 Kamehameha hosts No. 10 ‘Iolani for a 6 p.m. kickoff. Last year, Kamehameha ended the season with a 39-24 win over the Raiders. ‘Iolani quarterback Tai-John Mizutani, back for his junior season, threw for a school-record 485 yards in the loss. The Raiders are searching for their first ILH Division I […]

Shannon gave Kamehameha a wildcat spark

By Nick Abramo on September 2, 2016

Kamehameha’s first foray into Interscholastic League of Honolulu football with Abu Ma‘afala was not a successful one. The Warriors lost 56-14 and were beaten by, seemingly, a better team. But there was a time in the first quarter when Kamehameha had Punahou confused. It was when the Warriors, trailing 14-0, went to the wildcat offense and Kanoa Shannon took the snaps. Shannon hit the holes hard and fast and wiggled his way for extra yardage. A 40-yard gain was the […]
