Kamehameha gathers to honor late coach Santos

Kamehameha lost a longtime football and track and field coach Oct. 6, when Rob Santos died. Last Saturday, the school honored his memory at a ceremony at Kunuiakea Stadium. Santos was an All-State offensive lineman for the Warriors and returned to Kapalama to coach for more than 30 years. He also volunteered more than 14,000 hours of his time developing ‘oiwi leaders, according to a news release sent out by the school. Kamehameha linebacker Hoku Arias, a 6-foot, 205-pound linebacker who is a candidate for the Star-Advertiser’s All-State defensive player of the year award, has been named a Polynesian Bowl All Star today. The Saint Louis-Kamehameha rivalry is not going to rip up Kila Kamakawiwo’ole‘s family. Kamakawiwo’ole is a former Kaimuki and University of Hawaii defensive end, and his twin sons — Kila and Kalanikau — are scheduled to play against each other in Friday’s rivalry game. The Kamehameha defense was sizzling hot Saturday night in a 27-0 pounding of Waianae.
