By Hawaii Prep World on September 30, 2016

Things are much different in OIA Division II with the race for the playoffs just beginning. Kalani (2-2, 2-2) is tied with Waialua in the loss column but suffered a two-point loss to the Bulldogs earlier this season. The Falcons need a win to stay in the race against Kalaheo (1-6, 1-5), which plays its final game of the season. […]

All ends well for Kalani and receiver Zippay

By Billy Hull on September 10, 2016

A joyous evening for Kalani and its fans Saturday night at Kaiser Stadium got scary at the end of the third quarter. Leading Roosevelt 21-6 on homecoming night, the Falcons were driving for another score when senior receiver Ethan Zippay was knocked to the ground by an illegal hit that drew a flag. Zippay remained on the ground and was tended to by coaches and trainers for roughly 20 minutes until an ambulance drove onto the field and took him […]

Falcons focusing on the little things

By Jason Kaneshiro on August 28, 2016

A week after pulling out a close win, Kalani saw one slip away on Saturday. A miscue on an attempted punt resulted in a tie-breaking safety and the Falcons’ rally fell short in a 16-14 loss at Waialua’s Toshiyuki “Tosh” Nakasone Football Field. Waialua followed the safety with a scoring drive that gave the Bulldogs a 16-7 lead with 7:06 left in the fourth quarter. The Falcons drove into Waialua territory but two holding calls and a sack halted that […]

GAME NIGHT 8/27: Kalani/Waialua

By Hawaii Prep World on August 27, 2016

Another matchup of top-10 teams highlights the five-game slate Saturday on Oahu. In OIA-DII action, Kalani travels to Waialua to take on the Bulldogs. The Falcons picked up the first win of Scott Melemai‘s tenure in an exciting 26-22 win over Kaimuki last week. Waialua also played a thriller against Kaimuki, losing 22-20 in overtime in its season opener. Kalani has won four of the last five meetings but it was Waialua which pulled out a 21-16 victory last season. […]

Melemai’s first win at Kalani a memorable one

By Billy Hull on August 20, 2016

The first one is many times the toughest one to get. Kalani first-year coach Scott Melemai was well on his way to securing the first win of his Falcons tenure when Kaimuki suddenly struck for 14 points in the span of 2 minutes, 31 seconds to take a 22-19 lead on Saturday night in an OIA Division II showdown at Kaiser Stadium. Kalani’s defense had not allowed a single point for over 43 minutes of game time. Suddenly, a 1-yard […]
