Update: Kalani 34, Kalaheo 17, final

By Paul Honda on August 31, 2013

7:16 p.m. A busted punt — too much penetration forced the punter to run on fourth and about 30 — led to a quick score by Kalani to open the game. Noah Brum’s lob to Trevor Yamashita in the end zone gave the visiting Falcons a 7-0 lead early. Then came a shanked punt by Kalaheo and Kalani is driving again. The Falcons defense has bottled up Kalaheo’s prolific running back, Makena Johnston, so far. He broke about 85 yards […]

Kalani comes back from its darkest day

By Jerry Campany on August 29, 2013

Call it the Carney Curse. When Kalaheo traveled to Kaiser to play Kalani in 2010, Mustangs running back Jesse Carney ran over the Falcons for 379 yards on 15 carries in a 59-22 blowout. Fans took time out of their day back then to call the Star-Advertiser to complain about the Mustangs running it up on the OIA’s perennial whipping boys. They were just as upset that Carney jumped over legendary names like Damien’s Kama Bailey, ‘Iolani’s Joe Igber and […]

Football Tour: Kalani

By Paul Honda on August 18, 2013

Photos courtesy of Eli Kapu. I didn’t make it to Kalani, not with six teams on the photo tour schedule on one day. Mahalos to Eli for the photos. The only posed shot was with Noah Brum, the second-year starting quarterback. The Falcons have some improvement each year under coach Greg Taguchi. Snagging a playoff berth in the very competitive OIA White would be quite a prize. More Kalani football: • Kalani football: 2013 team page • Kalani football home […]

Kalani ready to build on 2012

By Billy Hull on August 11, 2013

After one quarter in the nightcap of the 50th Father Bray Classic at Aloha Stadium on Saturday night, the 2013 Kalani Falcons looked like the Falcons of old. No, not the teams that won three games in 2011 or four games in 2012, but the ones that went 2-80 from 2001 to 2010. By the time the final whistle sounded, that clearly wasn’t the case, as these Falcons battled back to erase a 44-6 deficit, going on a 30-0 run […]

Father Bray Classic: update 10:45 pm

By Paul Honda on August 10, 2013

4:03 p.m. Radford and Pac-Five are ready to rumble. Pupule picks: Pupule Paul: Radford 41-7. The difference, the biggest one, is that Radford has a veteran quarterback in Cody Lui-Yuen, while the ‘Pack have a lot of inexperienced, first-year players. Felipe “Please spell my name right” Ojastro: Radford 17-10 Kalani Takase: Radford 24-10 Michael Lasquero: 27-20 It’s been a HOT and HUMID day. I won’t be surprised if we have some cases of cramps and dehydration out there. 4:14 p.m. […]
