Kaiser to scrimmage Roosevelt instead

Even though the Kaiser varsity football team won’t have enough players suited up to play a nonleague game at Roosevelt on Friday night, they will have enough to participate in a scrimmage Saturday at 10 a.m. John Chung, the Roosevelt athletic director, confirmed the Saturday scrimmage in a Tuesday phone call. Kaiser cancels varsity game vs. Roosevelt

Despite a successful three-team scrimmage against McKinley and Aiea on Saturday, the Kaiser varsity football team has canceled its first scheduled game. Roosevelt football coach Kui Kahooilihala informed Hawaii Prep World on Monday that Kaiser coach Arnold Martinez called him on Sunday to say that the Cougars do not have enough varsity players to safely play in that nonleague game scheduled for Friday at Roosevelt’s Ticky Vasconcellos Stadium. The Kaiser varsity and junior varsity football teams will not be playing in scheduled scrimmages Thursday at Kaimuki. Kaimuki coach David Tautofi told Hawaii Prep World on Wednesday afternoon that Kaiser pulled out of the scrimmage due a low number of available varsity players. Kaiser to “modify” season due to low numbers

The Kaiser varsity football team is planning to play some games this season, but how many is a question that has not been answered yet. Principal Justin Mew, after a meeting of parents and coaches, said in a statement late Friday night that the Cougars’ season will be modified. Arnold Martinez knew he was in for a challenge accepting the head football coaching position at Kaiser five weeks before the start of the season.
