Kaiser finishes third; plays Campbell next week

By Billy Hull on October 2, 2015

After starting the season 0-3, the Kaiser Cougars have bounced back to win four of their last five games to finish in third place in the OIA Red following a 22-9 win over Leilehua on Friday night at Kaiser Stadium. The first-ever meeting between the two schools in Hawaii Kai saw the Mules (3-5, 3-4) race out to a 9-0 lead before quarterback Kona Andres left the game in the second quarter. Kaiser (4-4, 4-3) took advantage scoring 22 unanswered […]

TRENCH WARFARE: Eletise vs. Leilehua

By Billy Hull on October 2, 2015

He is considered the top lineman in the state and committed to Arizona just before the start of the season. Kaiser’s Michael Eletise (6-4, 305) kicks off our 2015 series of Trench Warfare. As a reminder, each series is scored on a 10-9 scale like it’s a boxing round. SERIES 1 Eletise, playing left guard, starts off against Jeremy Atiz Nerveza and has him 5 yards downfield in seconds as Kaiser runs right behind him for 4 yards. Netane Muti […]

VIDEO: Kaiser at No. 7 Waianae

By Paul Honda on September 27, 2015

The one game this weekend that featured almost as many combined points than the wild Punahou-Saint Louis matchup: Kaiser at Waianae. The Seariders’ 62-27 win had a little bit of everything, including a field goal, a safety, a recovered fumble on a kick return muff. Oh, a kickoff return for a TD by one of the starting quarterbacks, too.

LIVE BLOG: Waianae 62, Kaiser 27, Final

By Paul Honda on September 25, 2015

Kickoff will be around 8:20 p.m., my guess. Running clock in the second half of the JV game sped things up. It’s homecoming night for Waianae. They’re going to do their homecoming court festivities before the varsity game. FIRST QUARTER Seariders forced Kaiser into a three and out, then drove 65 yards in six plays. Jaren Ulu to Isaiah Freeney on a go route for a 28-yard TD. WAIN 7, KAIS 0, 7:58. Solofua Grey recovers Waianae’s pooch on the […]

Kaiser’s Higgins, Eletise step up in crunch time

By Billy Hull on September 19, 2015

With his star running back, senior Jensen McDaniel, getting swallowed up in the second half by the Castle defensive line, Kaiser coach Cameron Higgins changed things up. Or as he put it, “you just try to throw everything at the wall and see what sticks.” Cameron put his younger brother, Parker Higgins, a senior at Kaiser, at running back alongside McDaniel and Parker came up big, sealing the game with a 31-yard touchdown run and then adding a 65-yard run […]

LIVE BLOG: Kaiser 48, Castle 32

By Billy Hull on September 18, 2015

Kahuku and Waianae enter the weekend undefeated in the OIA Red while every other team has at least two losses with three weeks to go. However, the Red Raiders and Seariders haven’t both locked up the first-round bye in the OIA playoffs just yet. After starting 0-3, Kaiser nearly controls its own destiny. The Cougars could sneak into one of the top two spots if they win out and Waianae loses to Kahuku. Up first is a Castle team that […]

Tom’s triple-threat performance powers Kaiser

By Jason Kaneshiro on September 5, 2015

Nicolas Tom appeared a bit winded after crossing the goal line for the final touchdown of Kaiser’s 60-34 win at Waipahu on Friday night. Hard to blame the Cougars’ triple-threat for being a little leg weary after scoring in all three phases to help power Kaiser (1-3, 1-2 OIA Red) to its first win of the season in a game that ended 10 minutes before midnight. Tom started at quarterback and cornerback and returned kicks for the Cougars. He completed […]

Waipahu’s Simanu to test Kaiser

By Jerry Campany on September 3, 2015

Looking at the schedule before the season, Kaiser coach Cameron Higgins knew he would be scheming against the OIA’s best receivers week after week. It is doubtful he thought he would see the best one this week. The struggling Cougars travel to Waipahu on Friday to face Andrew Simanu and the Marauders. Simanu is the surprise leader in OIA Red receiving, catching 18 passes for 293 yards and two touchdowns through three games. Jordan Taylor, last year’s receiving leader for […]
