VIDEO: St. Francis/Kaimuki scrimmage

By Paul Honda on August 3, 2017

Two title contenders from two leagues in Division II met on Wednesday on a sunny, hot field at Kaimuki. St. Francis, which came very close to winning the ILH D-II crown last season, visited a dangerous Bulldogs squad that will contend for the OIA D-II title this fall. It was, all in all, a highlight-filled matchup featuring a first-year gunslinger at quarterback for St. Francis, as well as Kaimuki’s second-year standout at QB, Jordan Solomon.

Nerdpod: Quarterbacks v3.0

By Paul Honda on November 11, 2016

NERDPOD: Quarterbacks v3.0 The Star-Advertiser and Hawaii Prep World’s Paul Honda breaks down some of the best quarterbacks in the state. This is more of a run-through than a breakdown of QB statistics for the first time since almost two months. Numbers don’t tell the whole story, of course. That’s why this is Nerdpod, not fanpod. Some amazing, eye-popping numbers this season. QBs listed below in random order for the most part. QUARTERBACKS Tua Tagovailoa, Saint Louis Measurables: 6-1, 210, […]

Nerdpod: Running backs v3.0

By Paul Honda on October 27, 2016

NERDPOD: Running backs v3.0 The Star-Advertiser and Hawaii Prep World’s Paul Honda breaks down some of the best running backs in the state. Wow. Wowowow. They come at Challen Faamatau in all kinds of ways, none of them friendly. Chisel, blast, avalanche. Whatever it takes, defenses will come at Farrington Governor #13, and he has paid the price. Yet, he never stays down for long. He gets back up and keeps answering the call. Today, we take a look at […]

GAME NIGHT 10/21: Waialua/Kaimuki

By Hawaii Prep World on October 21, 2016

This might be Waialua’s best shot. The Bulldogs (5-2), who have never played a game in the state tournament, can clinch a berth this season with a victory over the other Bulldogs (5-3) tonight at Kaiser in the semifinals of the OIA Division II playoffs. The two teams return to the site of their Aug. 13 battle that was, perhaps, the most exciting game of the season. Kaimuki survived in overtime, 22-20, when Waialua overthrew the two-point conversion trailing by […]

Nerdpod: Receivers v4.0

By Paul Honda on October 20, 2016

NERDPOD: Receivers v4.0 Hawaii Prep World’s Paul Honda breaks down some of the best pass catchers in the state. The regular season has drawn its curtain across the islands, but I’ll be adding more pass catchers to this list until the playoffs and state tourney are done, and maybe past that, too. This week, five additions. Numbers are nice, but seeing how they reflect a player’s season is usually intriguing. Even players who don’t have statistics that scratch the ceiling […]

Kaimuki win tightens OIA D-II race

By Jason Kaneshiro on October 8, 2016

Thanks to Kaimuki’s win over Pearl City on Friday, clarity in the OIA Division II race will have to wait. Five teams entered the weekend in contention for four playoff spots and the Bulldogs prevented Pearl City from clinching the division title when Daniel Nguyen’s interception with 1:24 left sealed Kaimuki’s 20-17 win over the host Chargers. The Bulldogs closed the regular season at 5-3 overall and 5-2 in the division and will track the division’s remaining four games to […]

GAME NIGHT 10/7: Kaimuki/Pearl City

By Hawaii Prep World on October 7, 2016

It should be a fun weekend of football as the OIA Division I playoffs begin while the ILH regular season ends and the OIA D-II playoff race gets sorted out. Pearl City (5-1, 5-0 D-II) can clinch the regular season title and the No. 1 seed in the playoffs with a win over the Bulldogs (4-3, 4-2), who need a win to feel good about their playoff chances. A loss and a 4-3 Kaimuki team could be left out of […]
