By Hawaii Prep World on October 7, 2016

It should be a fun weekend of football as the OIA Division I playoffs begin while the ILH regular season ends and the OIA D-II playoff race gets sorted out. No. 5 Waianae (6-2, 5-2 OIA Blue) has had two weeks to stew over a loss to Campbell that cost the Seariders a bye in the first round of the OIA playoffs. Now the Seariders need a win over Kailua (3-4, 3-4 OIA Red) to clinch a berth in the […]

Below is the FOURTH of Hawaii Prep World’s four-part quick look at the first round of the Oahu Interscholastic Association Division I football playoffs Friday and Saturday. Now, the first-round losers are still eliminated, but the first-round winners gain a spot in the state tournament. The following week, the quarterfinal winners lock up […]

Pakele breaks out; Mejia breaks through

By Nick Abramo on October 2, 2016

Israel Pakele had a breakout game for Castle in a regular-season ending 24-21 victory over Windward rival Kailua on Saturday night. For Kailua, defensive end Christian Mejia had another one of many fantastic outings. Twice, he broke through the line to block field goals, among other highlights. Let’s talk about Pakele first. He got some great blocking up front, but that doesn’t tell the whole story. He hit the holes quickly and when he ran into the opposition, he made […]

GAME NIGHT 10/1: Castle/Kailua

By Hawaii Prep World on October 1, 2016

The OIA Division I regular season ends with one of Oahu’s best rivalries, Castle and Kailua. The Surfriders have won the last four games in the series, the Knights have not won since 2010. Kailua (3-3, 3-3 OIA Red) gets the No. 4 seed and a home game in the first round of the OIA playoffs next week with a win. A win for Castle (3-4, 2-4) would result in a three-way tie for fourth place with Leilehua and the […]

Kailua shows Wong heart

By Brian McInnis on September 24, 2016

There were plenty of fine victories for the Kailua Surfriders last year, as they went 7-3 to mark a complete turnaround from the winless year before. But what happened Friday night at Alex Kane Stadium was special for an altogether different reason for coach Joseph Wong. Kailua staged an improbable rally from down 21 points to stun No. 7 Mililani 34-28, keeping the Surfriders (3-3) right in the mix of the OIA Red standings with one game to play, vs. […]
