This specific Kahuku team might not necessarily be the best in 2013, but the Red Raiders have been the OIA’s best over the […]

Tonga, Kahuku defense bottle up Waianae

By Nick Abramo on October 21, 2013

Waianae quarterback Kekoa Kaluhiokalani ran the option offense smoothly all season long. He ran into a major problem, however, in the Seariders’ 45-20 season-ending loss to Kahuku on Friday night, facing pressure from everywhere along the Red Raiders’ defensive front. Kaluhiokalani was tackled behind the line of scrimmage 11 times and finished with minus-63 yards rushing on 14 attempts. Compare that to Kaluhiokalani’s output of 423 yards on 104 carries in nine previous games and the picture of a stout […]

Every once in a while, a coach will speak volumes of truth in one sentence. Reggie Torres did that Friday night

Farrington wins despite fumble-itis

By Paul Honda on October 8, 2013

It was near-perfect execution in all phases for Farrington for a half against Kahuku. In their OIA Red East showdown with No. 5 Kahuku, the underdog Governors led 14-0 in the third quarter when the pigskin became difficult to grasp. They fumbled three times, but lost the ball just once. On an apparent fourth fumble, by quarterback Montana Liana after taking a hit from the Red Raiders, Kahuku recovered. But officials ruled the play an incomplete pass. Video showed that […]

Video: #5 Kahuku vs. Farrington

By Paul Honda on October 7, 2013

Part 1 Part 2 There’s something about Kahuku-Farrington, The Rivalry. I’ve seen plenty of old, traditional neighbor programs lock horns for intense battles all over the state. But Kahuku-Farrington, or Farrington-Kahuku if you prefer, has a different flavor. A unique zeal. How else do you explain such intensity for two teams when one is (or was) unranked and the other is having a less-than-perfect season so far? It doesn’t matter what has happened before these teams meet. Fans on one […]

Trench Warfare 3: Fehoko vs. Mapuhi

By Jerry Campany on October 4, 2013

Farrington’s Breiden Fehoko vs. Kahuku’s Keala Mapuhi The third installment of Trench Warfare looks like a mismatch. On one side, Farrington’s Breiden Fehoko holds court among his teammates, getting them pumped up for the clash. On the other, Kahuku’s Keala Mapuhi quietly goes about his preparations. This matchup looks very much like Akebono vs. Konishiki, with Fehoko’s athleticism packed into a 6-foot-3, 280-pound package trying to maneuver around Mapuhi’s 300-plus pounds on a 6-foot frame. Fehoko, a junior, is one […]

Trench Warfare 2: Williams vs. Semisi

By Jerry Campany on October 4, 2013

Kahuku’s Lamone Williams vs. Farrington’s Mason Semisi In the second installment of Trench Warfare, we have Kahuku defensive end Lamone Williams vs. Farrington tackle Mason Semisi. All scoring on the 10-point must system and very subjective, feel free to add your own score. Farrington won this game at Aloha Stadium 21-7. Williams is a returning all-state player as a senior and carries a lean 240 pounds on his 6-foot-3 frame. Semisi also stands 6-3, but has 40 more pounds (according […]
