Kahuku’s Santiago commits to UH

The University of Hawaii received a big time commitment on Monday when Kahuku defensive back Keala Santiago announced on Twitter he will stay home for college. Santiago, who is 5-foot-11 and 187 pounds, was the Honolulu Star-Advertiser defensive player of the year as a senior for the undefeated state champion Red Raiders. It’s possible Kahuku defensive end Bradlee Anae could go where Red Raiders head coach Vavae Tata last worked as an assistant. That’s Vanderbilt in Nashville. Anae, the 6-foot-4, 220-pounder who was a large force in Kahuku’s run to the Division I state championship in 2015, was making his visit at Oregon State on Saturday when Hawaii Prep World contacted him. Kahuku to play Nevada power Bishop Gorman

Kahuku is not taking its Division I championship trophy and resting. The Red Raiders are going to Las Vegas to face Bishop Gorman on Sept. 17, Kahuku offensive coordinator John Hao confirmed Saturday. Latu visits Oregon State; 2 trips planned

Kahuku’s Hirkley Latu enjoyed his official visit to Oregon State last week, according to his father, Peni Latu. Latu is being recruited as a hybrid linebacker/strong safety, Peni Latu said. Hirkley has official visits lined up to Utah State this week and BYU next week. The 6-foot-3, 200-pound Latu was an outside linebacker for the part Red Raiders’ Division I state championship team and made the Honolulu Star-Advertiser’s All-State first team. Kahuku 37th in final football rankings

Kahuku finished No. 37 in the final MaxPreps national computer rankings. The Red Raiders finished off a 13-0 season with a 39-14 win over Saint Louis in the Division I state championship. Kahuku also ended the season as the No. 8 team in the USA Today Super 25 Pacific Region rankings. The Crusaders (9-3) ended up No. 121 in the MaxPreps rankings.

Colorado offers 2 Kahuku juniors

Kahuku’s historic defensive season in 2015 apparently has not gone unnoticed by major Division I college football coaches. Red Raiders cornerback Kekaula Kaniho and defensive lineman Aliki Vimahi picked up scholarship offers from Colorado on Monday night. Both Kahuku juniors posted the news on their Twitter accounts. Kaniho, a 6-foot, 170-pound defensive back, scored his first Division I offer while Vimahi, a 6-foot-4, 250-pound defensive end, also holds offers from Brigham Young and Oregon State. The USA Today regional computer football rankings are a tough nut to crack. Kahuku moved into the Pacific region rankings today at No. 9 out of 10 teams. Previously, Saint Louis was at No. 9, before falling out after losing 39-14 to the Red Raiders in the Division I state title game Friday.
