Kahuku starts out No. 39 nationally; No. 1 by fans

Things move pretty fast in football these days. The season is a few months away, but CBS MaxPreps already has its national rankings out and Kahuku is ranked No. 39. Kahuku football gets $5K gift for trip

Continental Pacific, a land development company based on the North Shore, donated $5,000 to the Kahuku football program on Tuesday. The money is to support the school’s trip to Nevada to play Bishop Gorman on Sept. 17. Continental Pacific partner Reynolds Henderson challenged other companies to match the donation by contacting Gillian Yamagata at the Kahuku Athletic Department. BYU lands Kahuku’s Latu; Utah gets Anae

Kahuku senior linebacker Hirkley Latu signed with Brigham Young on Wednesday. Latu had offers from California, Hawaii, Washington State, Oregon State, Utah and Utah State. Latu was one of eight Kahuku defensive players selected to the Honolulu Star-Advertiser all-state first team in December. Kahuku went 13-0 and won the state title. Kahuku defensive lineman Bradlee Anae signed with Utah, picking the Utes over Oregon State, BYU, Vanderbilt and Virginia.

Tata: Bishop Gorman game a great opportunity

Kahuku football head coach Vavae Tata is bringing his team to Las Vegas next season to play Bishop Gorman, USA Today’s No. 1 team from 2015.
