There were a lot big plays for the Kahuku Red Raiders in a 41-28 comeback win over No. 4 Punahou on Saturday night at Carleton E. Weimer Field.

Kahuku’s physicality too much for Punahou

By Paul Honda on August 11, 2018

Marcus Lombard put it bluntly. “Punahou gave us cracks at first,” the Kahuku right guard said. It was a confession rooted in respect, of course, nothing illegal or dirty. Punahou’s defense brought some hammers and stuffed Kahuku’s ground game for some time in their Open Division clash on Saturday night at Carleton E. Weimer Field. But Kahuku didn’t stop. The body blows kept coming. The inside-the-tackles trench work gradually wore down Punahou’s stout front seven to pull out a 41-28 […]

Q&A: Kahuku coach Sterling Carvalho

By Paul Honda on August 10, 2018

That led to a state championship, throwback style, with a dominant defense and a bevy of proud blockers who sacrificed for the greater good. Two coaches later, it has hardly taken much time for Big […]

Kahuku displays power, finesse in Carvalho’s debut

By Paul Honda on August 5, 2018

Game one is in the books for first-year head coach Sterling Carvalho. The former offensive coordinator has already left an imprint, merging the best of both worlds as No. 2 Kahuku overpowered Konawaena 61-9 on Saturday night at soggy Carleton Weimer Field. The Red Raiders were in sledgehammer mode early with running backs Wes Alo-Maiava and Toalei Lefau. Alo-Maiava rushed for 130 yards and touchdowns of 55, 5 and 5 yards in the first half, while Lefau rushed for a […]
