Though premier wrestler and judoka Teshya Alo of Kamehameha was away in a wrestling competition on the mainland, her younger sister, Teniya Alo, stepped up and won her first state title. Kapolei, Roosevelt win judo titles

Kapolei had four individual champions and repeated as state boys judo champions on Saturday at the Stan Sheriff Center. Jayson Pagurayan won at 108 pounds, Andre Pagurayan got it done at 114, Kaulana Narciso won at 132 and Kekua Marumoto won his second state title with a victory at 161 pounds. Jordan Ng of Iolani and Mid-Pacific’s Cole Chandler will be trying to make up for lost time at today’s HHSAA judo championships at the Stan Sheriff Center. Only three athletes swept wrestling and judo state titles last year, the fewest since 2005 when judo was in its infancy as a state sport. Ng earns ILH judo slam

Jordan Ng of Iolani won his fourth ILH judo title at Punahou on Friday night, and Jaclyn Fontanilla of Kamehameha took her third. Judoka to win their second titles were: Weston Kogachi (Punahou), Cole Chandler (Mid-Pacific), Joseph Hoshino (Kamehameha), Dane Yamashiro (Iolani), Tayler Miyao (St. Andrew’s Priory), Hilinai Meyer (Kamehameha), Teshya Alo (Kamehameha) and Kayla Gaspar-Takahashi (Kamehameha). ‘Iolani won the boys team title with 136 points, just three more than second-place Punahou.
