LIVE BLOG: ‘Iolani 34, Damien 14, Final

By Billy Hull on October 24, 2014

‘Iolani had its streak of six consecutive Division II state titles come to an end last year at the hands of Kauai. What hasn’t ended is a run of 10 straight ILH Division II titles. The Raiders will try to make it 11 in a row with a victory over Damien tonight. The Monarchs have lost their last 15 games against ‘Iolani but were competitive through two and a half quarters before losing 37-14 in late August. Kickoff is 5:30 […]

VIDEO: ‘Iolani at #4 Kamehameha

By Paul Honda on October 6, 2014

The visiting Raiders keep it close with big plays from RB K.J. Pascua, QB Austin Jim On and WR Keoni-Kordell Makekau. Kamehameha pulls away in the second half with the help of RB Jordan Bayudan (159 yards, three TDs) and QB Fatu Sua-Godinet (397 total yards, 3 TDs from scrimmage). Final: Kamehameha 42, ‘Iolani 28.

Balancing act: Warriors in a big blue groove

By Paul Honda on October 4, 2014

Some thoughts on Friday night’s Kamehameha-‘Iolani battle — a 42-28 win for the fourth-ranked Warriors — at Kunuiakea Stadium. • 44 runs, 31 passes and 650 total yards by Kamehameha, and still, it was not an easy win. That has more to do with ‘Iolani’s game plan than anything. The Raiders had to fight for every one of their 436 total yards. Austin Jim On fired 44 passes, completing 19 and, against a stellar secondary, got picked twice. It was […]

LIVE BLOG: Kamehameha 42, Iolani 28, final

By Paul Honda on October 3, 2014

First quarter ‘Iolani wins the toss and elects to receive. Interesting. Third play from scrimmage, K.J. Pascua right up the gut for a 69-yard TD run. Two pass plays set up the simple dive. IOL 7, KS 0, 11:12. Two plays after Kamehameha stops ‘Iolani on fourth and 1 near midfield, Jordan Bayudan goes around left tackle for a 25-yard TD run. KS 7, IOL 7, 1:38. The Raiders had some momentum going with two big gains by Pascua, but […]

‘Iolani goes over 60 points in beating Pac-Five

By Billy Hull on September 20, 2014

Sophomore running back KJ Pascua rushed for a career-high 190 yards and five touchdowns to help ‘Iolani top 60 points in a game for the first time in the Prep Bowl/state championship era with a 62-19 win over Pac-Five on Saturday night at Aloha Stadium. Pascua and backup Storm Lotomau, who had 122 rushing yards, became the first ‘Iolani duo to top 100 rush yards in the same ILH game since Ryan Dung and Justin Yamamoto accomplished the feat in […]

Crusaders marching forward

By Paul Honda on September 16, 2014

It’s hard to beat the gurus. That’s basically the scenario every time a team takes on Saint Louis and its brothers in arms, coaches Cal and Ron Lee. Sure, the Crusaders will be deeper next year defensively with an influx of new players, and the offense will still be potent with the return of quarterback Tua Tagovailoa. But it’s the evolution of the offense in the return of the Lees that piques interest. What was and still is generally a […]

VIDEO: #8 Saint Louis at ‘Iolani

By Paul Honda on September 14, 2014

The Crusaders won their second ILH game in as many weeks, powered by quarterback Tua Tagovailoa’s 354 yards and five TDs in the first half. Saint Louis won 55-20.

LIVE BLOG: #8 Saint Louis 55, ‘Iolani 20

By Paul Honda on September 13, 2014

One team is finding its identity, learning new verbiage from a staff led by two of the most Yoda-ish gurus around. The other is a Division II powerhouse, a testament to quality skills and coaching over sheer size and numbers. Saint Louis and ‘Iolani are about to kick off, and it’s scorching hot down on the field, probably around 90-91 degrees with trades 2-3 mph, if that. Nothing like daytime football at ‘Iolani, literally a stone’s throw from Waikiki. Saint […]
