Makekau’s third offer: Navy

The United States Naval Academy has offered ‘Iolani junior Keoni-Kordell Makekau a football scholarship. Pacific Islands Athletic Alliance shared the news on its Facebook page today. Makekau, a 5-foot-11, 166-pound wide receiver/slotback/placekicker, also has offers from Washington State and Hawaii. He won the ILH boys 100-meter dash recently with a time of 11.01 seconds. ‘It’s official. ‘Iolani will be playing football in ILH Division I next season, Raiders coach Wendell Look confirmed Thursday. Having won multiple ILH and state championships in D-II, the Raiders were required by a new rule to move up to D-II, barring appeal. School officials had been meeting the last few months in an attempt to make a decision on whether ‘Iolani would appeal to stay in D-II or not. Keoni-Kordell Makekau has his first FBS scholarship offer, and it couldn’t have come from a more pass-happy program. Washington State, coached by Mike Leach, made an offer to the ‘Iolani wide receiver this morning. Makekau had 49 receptions for 756 yards and seven touchdowns last fall to help the Raiders capture the Division II state championship. Maggiolino hired as 1 of ‘Iolani’s athletic directors

‘Iolani hired Maurice Maggiolino as one of three athletic directors, the school announced Monday morning. He will step into his new role on July 1, the day after the retirement of Carl Schroers, who spent 37 years in the position. Eddie Maruyama and Wendell Look are the other ‘Iolani ADs.
