Volleyball signees dominate letter of intent day

Roosevelt hires Mols; Hatchie to Waialua

Adrian Mols is the new baseball head coach at Roosevelt, according to Rough Riders athletic director John Chung. Mols was an infielder for Roosevelt, graduating in 1999, and then for Occidental College. Mols takes over for Les Loo, who left after last season, when the Rough Riders went 3-8 in the Oahu Interscholastic Association East. Moanalua’s Shawn Lu tees off at Sony Open

Moanalua senior Shawn Lu was the only amateur in last week’s Sony Open at Waialae Country Club. Lu, playing in his first PGA event, finished 6-over 146 after two rounds. His caddy was Punahou’s Kyle Suppa, who played in last year’s Sony Open.


Galdiano finishes strong at U.S. Women’s Open

Mariel Galdiano finished the U.S. Women’s Open in some pretty distinguished company. The Punahou senior made the cut for the first time in three U.S. Open appearances on Friday then carded rounds of 1 over par 71 on Saturday and Sunday at Lancaster Country Club in Pennsylvania to finish in a tie for 42nd at 6 over for the tournament. Kamehameha’s Dunaway wins golf title

Kamehameha’s Spencer Dunaway shot a 69 at Waikoloa to win the David Ishii / HHSAA state boys golf championship on Friday. Dunaway, who shared the lead with four other boys after the first round, shot a 69 in the second round to beat Moanalua’s Kyosuke Hara and Punahou’s Andrew Chin by three strokes. Four players are tied for the lead after the first day of the David Ishii Boys Golf Championships at Waikoloa on Thursday. Baldwin’s Tyler Munetake, Spencer Dunaway of Kamehameha and Punahou pair Colin Laszlo and Andrew Chin all finished their first trip around the course in 70 shots.
