Spikers Showdown: Kahuku-Farrington

By Paul Honda on September 13, 2012

Good turnout for the Kahuku-Farrington girls volleyball battle tonight. Varsity is about an hour or so away. JV and Blue teams play first. Kahuku is ranked No. 5 in the Star-Advertiser Top 10. Farrington has been real close, but road losses (Kalani, Roosevelt) have been untimely. I’ve seen Farrington recently and they really play well at home. This might be the best home crowd in the OIA along with Moanalua and Kahuku. Definitely among the loudest. Time to track down […]

Extra: More on Punahou, St. Francis

By Paul Honda on October 31, 2011

(Today’s print edition carried a follow-up story on Punahou’s girls volleyball championship. Here’s more, the stuff that didn’t make it to print due to space limitations.) Is this the end of a dynasty at Kamehameha? “I don’t think so,” Punahou coach Peter Balding said. “I think our society looks at a dynasty in terms of wins and losses. Was Buffalo not a dynasty? They went to four straight Super Bowls and we don’t consider them a dynasty because they lost […]

Video: Kamehameha celebration

By Paul Honda on October 31, 2010

This will take awhile. Not just a few minutes or hours. I’m talking days. Editing video is fun, but time-consuming. Loading the finished product online … that takes (almost) forever! As in 3 hours to load 9 minutes of footage. So please bear with me. You’ll get all the video you could imagine (almost). First, here’s the first part of Kamehameha’s post-match celebration after the win over Punahou yesterday in the New City Nissan/HHSAA Division I Girls Volleyball State Championships. […]
