New girls VB coach among Govs’ changes

Changes are coming to Farrington High School’s campus, but there’s one that involves the girls volleyball program. Barney Choy is the new head coach, athletic director Harold Tanaka said. He replaces Reagan Agena. Choy has experience as a club coach. His daughter, Bailey Choy, plays for ‘Iolani. As for other changes, it’s a long-term picture that has begun with the football and track facility. The grounds are currently being redone to make way for an on-campus stadium. The tennis courts […]

Granato named All-American

Punahou outside hitter McKenna Granato has been named to the CBS MaxPreps All-American Girls Volleyball third team. Granato, a 5-foot-11 senior, was named to the Under Armour All-America first team in early November. She was voted the Star-Advertiser All-State player of the year this season. She has signed with the University of Hawaii.

Spikers lead LOI fall signing class

A dozen volleyball players were among nearly three dozen student-athletes who signed their letters of intent early Wednesday morning at the Elks Lodge in Waikiki. The event, hosted each signing season by Pacific Islands Athletic Alliance (PIAA), featured a multitude of sports for the fall signing period. The 12 volleyball players include UH signee McKenna Granato, who sparked Punahou to the state championship last week.
