Leilehua looks the part

By Paul Honda on October 15, 2015

For a moment early in Thursday’s loss to Kalaheo, the Leilehua girls volleyball team looked like world beaters. Elisha Levasa cleverly pushed the ball all over the court as Leilehua compensated for Kalaheo’s height and athleticism. The Lady Mules led the opening set 6-1 after Saramasina Docktor established her presence with a block and consecutive kills. Kalaheo rallied behind Siani Yamaguchi and took a 14-9 lead. Leilehua regained the lead with kills and a block by Levasa. After an ace […]

A bracket and updated results can be found on our OIA girls volleyball page. Roosevelt in 2006 is the last team other than the Big Three to prevail. Kahuku, Moanalua and Mililani have taken turns as OIA champions since the […]

At a lower level, Kailua at top of food chain, too

By Nick Abramo on September 23, 2015

Kailua head coach Glenn Chong was looking for the right words to describe Moanalua, the team that had come into the Surfriders’ gym Wednesday night and left with a 21-16, 21-17 victory. “They’re at the top of the food chain,” he said. Yes indeed. Moanalua, the defending Oahu Interscholastic Association champion, is undefeated and one of the favorites to win the league again this year. But there is a lower level food chain, too, and Chong’s Surfriders are right there […]
