King Kekaulike coach Al Paschoal said there’s “a lot of chatter” regarding Chandler Cowell’s future. In the present, the Na Alii junior will likely be a focal point in the Kamehameha’s coaching staff’s discussions heading into Friday’s semifinal matchup in the New City Nissan/HHSAA Division I Girls Volleyball Championship. Celena Molina commits to Washington State

Celena Jane Molina, Konawaena’s basketball and volleyball standout, has orally committed to Washington State. The 5-foot-9 senior is a three-time Star-Advertiser Girls Basketball All-State Fab 15 selection and two-time state champion. She will play basketball for the Cougars, who recruited her older sister, recent graduate Chanelle Molina. Youngest sister Cherilyn Molina, an all-state junior guard who also plays volleyball, has a scholarship offer from Washington State, as well. The HHSAA’s Divison II volleyball tournament was instituted in part to give schools a shot at postseason glory that would never have the chance otherwise. Moanalua gets tough draw in HHSAA

Moanalua seems to have lost its most favored nation status with the HHSAA Na Menehune made the tournament for the 15th straight year, but will have to travel to Iolani to advance to the quarterfinals. Moanalua has had the benefit of a home match until the semifinals for the past two years. HHSAA girls volleyball brackets announced

The HHSAA released its state girls volleyball tournament brackets on Saturday morning. The D-I tournament begins on Monday with Kamehameha-Maui hosting Farrington and Waiakea hosting Kapolei at 3:45 p.m. on the outer islands. ‘Iolani hosts Moanalua and Mililani hosts Kalaheo at 6 p.m on Oahu. The Division II tournament begins on Wednesday and the Division I quarterfinals will begin on Thursday. The full Division I bracket can be found here. The full Division II bracket can be found here.

Iolani reaches state volleyball tournament

The Iolani girls volleyball team won the ILH but fell in the state final last year. This time they hope the roles are reversed. The Raiders beat Punahou 23-25, 25-18, 26-24, 25-19 on Friday night to clinch the league’s second state berth. The Raiders will host their first-round match on Monday against an opponent to be determined. Kamehameha, which beat Iolani in last year’s state final, won the ILH championship on Thursday. Waianae wins 1st girls volleyball title

There’s often been championship potential for Waianae volleyball. The boys found themselves in the spotlight several years ago, but maintaining that level of success is not easy. The girls? Thursday’s 25-15, 25-13, 25-19 sweep of Roosevelt in the OIA Division II final was an eye-opener.
