Giesseman stepping down at McKinley

McKinley volleyball coach Chad Giesseman is stepping down as the boys and girls coach for the Tigers. Bob Morikuni, the school’s athletic director, said Giesseman’s reason for leaving is to spend more time with his family. “Chad has done an awesome job taking care of the boys AND girls program,” Morikuni wrote in an email to Hawaii Prep World. “The students love playing for him. Volleyball standout setter ShaRae Niu was one of six Kahuku seniors who signed their letters of intent on Wednesday. Niu signed with Hawaii-Hilo. Teammate Carey Williams signed with the University of Portland. Cheyenne Te’o signed with Notre Dame de Namur. Brigham Young junior setter Alohi Robins-Hardy has been chosen to compete on the U.S. Women’s Collegiate National Team that will tour Europe this summer. Robins-Hardy, a 2014 Kamehameha alumna, will play for the CNT-Europe squad, one of three teams within the U.S. Collegiate National Team program, that will play in the 13th Annual European Global Challenge on July 11-14 in Pula, Croatia. Downey resigns as Kalaheo volleyball coach

Kalaheo girls volleyball coach Roberta Downey stepped down recently. Downey, who has led the team since 2009, said she wants to spend time with club ball and watching the college game. She says she will inquire around Chaminade and Hawaii Pacific to see if they need any volunteer assistants. Oglivie, Akeo named high school All-Americans

‘Iolani’s Elena Oglivie, who last November became the first high school freshman in Hawaii named player of the year by a newspaper, was named to the CBS MaxPreps Freshman All-American team on Monday. Kamehameha’s Lexis Akeo was also honored by MaxPreps with her selection to the Sophomore All-American team. Oglivie was one of three finalists for the MaxPreps National Freshman of the Year honor after leading the Raiders to their first state girls volleyball championship since 2001. She averaged 4.1 […]

A total of five players with Hawaii ties earned All-America honors from the AVCA today. Along with Hawaii outside hitter Nikki Taylor, a Kaiser graduate, Utah junior Adora Anae was named to the AVCA All-America second team. Anae, a Kahuku alumna, is just the second Utah volleyball player to earn second-team All-America honors ever.
