‘Iolani freshman Elena Oglivie was named the 2016-17 Gatorade Hawaii girls volleyball player of the year on Tuesday. Kalaheo girls volleyball coach Roberta Downey stepped down recently. Downey, who has led the team since 2009, said she wants to spend time with club ball and watching the college game. She says she will inquire around Chaminade and Hawaii Pacific to see if they need any volunteer assistants. ‘Iolani’s Elena Oglivie, who last November became the first high school freshman in Hawaii named player of the year by a newspaper, was named to the CBS MaxPreps Freshman All-American team on Monday.
