‘Iolani’s early season girls volleyball resume is impressive. The Raiders won their annual Ann Kang Invitational earlier this month and have some good wins over big-name mainland teams. The second day of the Ann Kang Invitational began this morning with one of the biggest matches so far. Undefeated teams in Pool A — Punahou and Long Beach Poly — met in the Lower Gym with the Buffanblu notching an impressive 25-15, 28-26 win over the Jackrabbits. Punahou went on to sweep Mid-Pacific and King Kekaulike and has yet to drop a set heading into the final day on Saturday. ILH powers Punahou and Iolani led the charge on the first day of the Ann Kang Invitational at Iolani on Thursday, going through the first day unbeaten. Neither team dropped a set. Punahou swept Boswell, Moanalua and Buchanan in pool A to share the lead with Long Beach Poly, which beat Santa Margarita 26-24, 21-25, 15-10. Some of the nation’s top girls volleyball programs will be in town for the 29th annual Ann Kang Volleyball Invitational at ‘Iolani this week. The headliner is 2016 Southern California regional champion Santa Margarita, which will be looking for a better showing in the preseason tournament this year. Team Aloha reaches semifinals

Team Aloha of Hawaii reached the semifinals of the Girls National Youth Gold Division at the USA High Performance Championships in Florida on Friday. The team from Hawaii, coached by John Ing, went 6-0 including pool play. Aloha lost in the semifinals this morning to KRVA (Penn.) 25-17, 25-21, 17-25, 25-18. Hawaii High Performance leaves for nationals

The USAV Aloha Region High Performance team leaves today to play in the USA Volleyball High Performance Championships in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. The tourney will be on July 18-22. Head coach John Ing is assisted by Warren Ando and Lee Lamb. The program has played in every HP championship since 2003.

Kaiser volleyball coach Noborikawa steps down

Kaiser girls volleyball coach Ernest Noborikawa decided to step down from the post after the fall season for personal reasons, Cougars assistant athletic director Bryan Almadova confirmed last week. Noborikawa spent 16 years involved with the program and won the 2009 OIA Division II championship as the head coach of a team that had Nikki Taylor on it.
