Aiea moves closer to first state spot since 2013

She’s one of just two seniors on the Aiea girls volleyball team, but Leslie Mamai-Lagafuaina embraces her role as a leader. The 6-foot-2 outside hitter blasted 21 kills as Aiea outlasted Kalani 25-14, 22-25, 25-20, 25-21 on a muggy Wednesday night at Farrington’s Richard Kitamura Fieldhouse. Punahou jumps to No. 2 in girls volleyball

Due to two big Interscholastic League of Honolulu Division I victories last week, Punahou moved up three spots all the way to No. 2 in the Honolulu Star-Advertiser Top 10 on Monday. The Buffanblu beat then-No. 2 ‘Iolani in four sets and also defeated then-No. 3 Maryknoll in five in the highly competitive four-team league. Punahou is just 4-6 on the season. HAWAII GROWN: Anae sets Utah kills record

Utah senior Adora Anae, who was named the Pac-12 offensive player of the week today, is the Utes’ all-time career kills record holder. The 2014 Kahuku alumna, who was named to the AVCA All-America second team as a junior, recorded her 1,621st kill in the first set of Sunday’s four-set win over Washington State to pass Kim Turner‘s record total of 1,620. OIA volleyball playoff matchups nearly set

The final seeding for the OIA Division I girls volleyball playoffs will be decided Monday between Radford and Campbell in the final game of the regular season. The winner will receive the fifth seed out of the West and the loser will be the sixth seed. The playoffs begin Wednesday. Despite beating No. 2 ‘Iolani on the court last week, Maryknoll could not overtake the Raiders in the Honolulu Star-Advertiser Top 10 girls volleyball poll released today. The Raiders, who also lost a match to No. 1 Kamehameha last week and fell to 4-4 overall, kept their No. 2 ranking. Emily Dulaney loves to dish the ball, but when Moanalua needed a jolt, she delivered. The 5-foot-10 senior had eight kills, seven assists and a block as No. 3 Moanalua outlasted Castle 25-20, 21-25, 15-7 in a battle of OIA East unbeatens. Microscopic changes in volleyball rankings

The Maui Interscholastic League finally got some love in this week’s Honolulu Star-Advertiser Girls Volleyball Top 10. Voters moved Kamehameha-Maui (8-0) into the list at No. 9, supplanting Hawaii Baptist (5-2), which lost to both Le Jardin and Sacred Hearts recently. Other than that change, the Top 10 remained exactly the same. Only the point totals changed.
