Tachibana walks away from Kahuku job

Mounia Tachibana is unhappy with what she calls a lack of support she and her team received from the Kahuku administration and has left her job as the Red Raiders girls volleyball coach. “I did not have support from the administration,” she said Tuesday. “The Kahuku athletes deserve better. Hawaii Volleyball Combine back for 9th year

More than 60 colleges nationwide are expected to be represented at the ninth annual Hawaii Volleyball Combine held Friday through Sunday at Manoa Valley District Park. This year, there are 311 high school student athletes registered for the event, including players from the neighbor islands. The combine was established in 2009 to assist local players in getting noticed by mainland schools for recruiting purposes without the added expense of travel to the mainland. Gatorade award goes to Kamehameha’s Akeo

Kamehameha junior setter Lexis Akeo was named the Gatorade Hawaii girls volleyball player of the year today. Akeo led the Warriors the Division I state title and was named most valuable player of the tournament after tallying 35 assists, 11 digs, three kills, three block assists and an ace in a sweep of ‘Iolani in the final. Akeo is the fourth Gatorade award winner from Kamehameha, joining Kanani Herring (2008), Misty Ma’a (2011) and Alohi Robins-Hardy (2014). According to a […]

Now more than ever, volleyball talent in Hawaii resides in the ILH. Oahu’s private-school league garnered 12 of the 15 players on the Star-Advertiser’s season-ending All-State team, tying the record it held in 2015 and 2008. The fewest ILH players on the Fab 15, which began in the Star-Bulletin in 2007, was eight in 2013. So the ILH has always had more than half of the representation.
