By Paul Honda on December 16, 2023

She’s crafty, this lefty playmaker. Julissa Bollinger did a little of everything for Radford, including scoring on the block with a quick lefty jump hook off the glass over and over. Mililani had no solution for Bollinger and fellow senior Jirah Villanueva as Radford pulled away for a 56-45 win on Friday night at James Alegre Gymnasium. Bollinger finished with 22 points and Villanueva had 16 for Radford (5-1, 1-0 OIA West). “Definitely, Coach Dubz (assistant Allen Fortson) helped me […]

Hoopbook: No. 1 Maryknoll and so many infinity stones

By Paul Honda on December 13, 2023

Basketball bonanza buffet is the only way I can say it. So much goodness. So little time. The fun part is posting video shot from behind backboards. After all the years, decades really, of filming prep basketball and even our men’s league in the 1990s, I never did it more than once or twice. Now I’m hooked. Instead of sitting up high on the bleachers with the long view from the Handycam, I’m having a blast posting highlights within minutes […]

By Paul Honda on December 2, 2023

The run-and-gun unit at Kailua has gone defensive. With Noa Donnelly, Dylan Kunz and Maddox Pung — and help from Sebastian Ledda — battling in the trenches — Kailua used a suffocating 2-3 matchup zone to repel upstart University Lab, 45-37, in the championship game of the Surfrider Holiday Classic on Saturday night at Kailua. It was the first loss of the nonconference slate after five wins for unranked University. They had beaten Campbell twice, on Monday and Friday, and […]

By Paul Honda on December 2, 2023

The Junior Rainbows of University Lab School have all it takes to win basketball games. The only question is, will there be enough left in the tank to beat Kailua on Saturday. ULS advanced to the title game of the Surfrider Holiday Classic with a 60-49 runaway win over No. 10 Campbell. The Jr. ‘Bows’ second win over the Sabers in a four-day span was a close game in the first half before they went on a 16-2 run before […]
