Governors get back to what works

By Jason Kaneshiro on September 12, 2013

It took a little while for Farrington’s running game to find some traction this season before Sanele Lavatai and Vimoto Fuimaono broke loose for dual 100-yard games last week. Lavatai went for 157 yards and three touchdowns and Fuimaono finished with 110 yards on just seven carries in a 31-14 win over Kailua. The accomplishment had become relatively commonplace last year when Tyler Taumua and Abraham Silva both powered past the century mark in five games: Kaimuki—Silva 176, Taumua 115. […]

The Governors got quarterback Montana Liana back from injury (knee) and improved to 2-0 in OIA Red East play with a 31-14 win over the Surfriders. Running back Sanele Lavatai didn’t carry the ball until the second quarter, but finished with 157 yards and three touchdowns on 13 carries. Highlights include post-game interviews with Lavatai, Aaron Kesi and coaches Randall Okimoto of Farrington and Gary Rosolowich of Kailua.

Govs go ahead 7-0 on a 14-yard touchdown pass from Montana Liana to Chrstian Bacani. This despite five penalties against Farrington during Kailua’s opening drive. The Surfriders took almost 6 minutes off the clock but stalled. Govs 7, Surfriders 0, 2:07, first quarter. 5:55 p.m. Farrington got a long run on its next play from scrimmage, but fumbled the ball inside the 10-yard line. It bounced into the end zone, where Kailua emerged out of a pileup with the ball. […]

Castle’s Maeda vs. Farrington’s Okimoto

By Jerry Campany on August 31, 2013

Farrington coach Randall Okimoto and Castle boss Nelson Maeda have matched wits 12 times since Okimoto took over in Kalahi in 2002, but this might be the first time one of the teams was not a decided underdog. The teams play tonight at Castle in front of OC 16’s cameras. Okimoto leads the series 7-5, but it has been a cyclical affair. The Governors have won the last two and put up 94 points in doing it. Castle surprised the […]

Video: #8 Farrington at #6 Kamehameha

By Paul Honda on August 22, 2013

For this year’s Kalihi Bowl, let’s just say the highlights are one-sided. Kamehameha’s fortress is in lock-down mode. Any transgressors are severely punished.

Update: Kamehameha 38, Farrington 3, final

By Paul Honda on August 16, 2013

7:12 p.m. JV game, Kamehameha won 10-7. Varsity is just starting. I’m expecting a low-scoring game. Kamehameha is learning a new system under new coach Doug Cosbie. The Warriors offense scored one touchdown in a 15-0 win over Castle last week. Farrington’s coming off a 33-16 loss to Waianae. 7:17 p.m. Long run by Kamehameha’s quarterback set up a touchdown pass that was called back by penalty (ineligible man downfield). 7:22 p.m. Third and long, nice rollout against a heavy […]
