Govs put their trust in One Family

By Paul Honda on October 21, 2016

As a coaching lifer, Randall Okimoto has been consistent. Gadgets and trickeration have their place in the longtime Farrington coach’s playbook, but one of his main focuses in any season — this is his 15th as head coach — is development. When the No. 6-ranked Governors meet No. 4 Kapolei in the OIA Division I football semifinals on Saturday at Aloha Stadium, Okimoto will be counting on everyone on his roster to be ready. More than two months into the […]

Nerdpod: Receivers v4.0

By Paul Honda on October 20, 2016

NERDPOD: Receivers v4.0 Hawaii Prep World’s Paul Honda breaks down some of the best pass catchers in the state. The regular season has drawn its curtain across the islands, but I’ll be adding more pass catchers to this list until the playoffs and state tourney are done, and maybe past that, too. This week, five additions. Numbers are nice, but seeing how they reflect a player’s season is usually intriguing. Even players who don’t have statistics that scratch the ceiling […]

Govs’ Sila rankles Campbell in conquest

By Nick Abramo on October 15, 2016

Farrington defensive lineman Foi Sila made life difficult for Campbell’s offense on Friday night. The 5-foot-11, 241-pound junior was in the face of Sabers quarterback Kawika Ulufale all night, sacking him three times, and he broke through for another tackle for loss on Campbell running Tasi Faumui. Sila was part of an immense defensive effort that kept the Sabers off the scoreboard in a 25-7 win. Campbell’s only touchdown came on a punt return. “Foi Sila is a reliable guy,” […]

OIA PLAYOFF PREVIEW: Farrington at Campbell

By Hawaii Prep World on October 13, 2016

OIA D-I Quarterfinals The matchup: Campbell (5-3) vs. Farrington (6-2) Location/Time: Campbell, Friday, 7:30 p.m. Head-to-head: Farrington leads 15-4-1 Last meeting: Farrington 34, Campbell 14 (8/13/2016) Campbell’s offensive statistics Farrington’s offensive statistics A lot has changed since Farrington’s 34-14 win over Campbell on Aug. 13. The obvious difference for Campbell is in quarterback Kawika Ulufale, a mobile, shifty controller of the offense. It was Campbell’s defense that worked wonders against Moanalua in the close win on Sept. 16, and Ulufale […]

GAME NIGHT 10/7: Kaiser/Farrington

By Hawaii Prep World on October 7, 2016

It should be a fun weekend of football as the OIA Division I playoffs begin while the ILH regular season ends and the OIA D-II playoff race gets sorted out. No. 6 Farrington (5-2, 5-2 OIA Red) will be without head coach Randall Okimoto due to a family obligation for its OIA first-round playoff matchup against Kaiser (2-6, 1-6 OIA Blue) at Ticky Vasconcellos Stadium. Govs’ running back Challen Faamatau has rushed for 2,850 yards and 34 touchdowns in 30 […]

Nerdpod: Receivers v3.0

By Paul Honda on October 7, 2016

It’s the opening week of the OIA Division I playoffs, OIA D-II regular season is still in session, ILH is still battling for playoff positions, KIF and BIIF nearing the playoffs. And only the third installment of Nerdpod WRs. Some additions to the list that I wish I could’ve added in previous editions. Only so many hours in the day and I just haven’t been drinking as much coffee as usual. But here goes and, yes, previous nerdpodded receivers have […]

OIA playoff mania: Kaiser vs. Farrington

By Nick Abramo on October 6, 2016

Below is the THIRD of Hawaii Prep World’s four-part quick look at the first round of the Oahu Interscholastic Association Division I football playoffs Friday and Saturday. This year, things are quite a bit different. In years past, teams playing in the first round faced elimination and also had a chance to move on. Now, the first-round losers are still eliminated, but the first-round winners gain a spot in the state tournament. The following week, the quarterfinal winners lock up […]
