In a little more than four months, the championship football program at Damien will be at full throttle again. Coming off a 7-3 season and back-to-back Interscholastic League of Honolulu Division II titles, Damien has a full slate in the first three weeks of preseason. The semifinals in the Open Division and Division I of the First Hawaiian Bank/HHSAA Football State Championships on Friday night had little drama. All four games were decided by 16 points. Saturday it’s Division II’s turn to possibly generate some excitement with two semifinal games. The first takes place at Vidinha Stadium as KIF champion Kapaa hosts ILH champion Damien. Damien has enjoyed an abundance of preparation time over the last month. After pulling out a triple-overtime win over Pac-Five on Sept. 30, the Monarchs went close to three weeks without a game before facing Saint Francis in the ILH Division II championship game. That win gave them another two weeks to gear up for their opener in the D-II state tournament.
