Harder, Kwan break through in ILH cross country

Hanalani junior Adam Harder took his time to savor the school’s first individual ILH cross country title. Harder covered three miles at Punahou in 17 minutes, 6.4 seconds to beat ‘Iolani senior Charles Sakamaki and the rest of the field by a wide margin on Saturday. Inouye, Schneider earn OIA titles

Dallas Inouye dusted the field by more than 30 seconds to give Moanalua a repeat winner at the OIA Cross Country Championships at Central Oahu Regional Park on Saturday. Inouye covered the sprawling 3-mile course in 21 minutes, 17.93 seconds to beat teammate Maleah Kanayama‘s 21:49.91 clocking. Hanalani’s Harder favored to win ILH cross country title

It is probably fitting that a new course gets a new champion. Hanalani junior Adam Harder is favored to win the ILH cross country championship on Saturday at Punahou, the first time the meet will be held there since 2011. It has been held at Mid-Pacific since then. Reigning champion Aaron Shiinoki of Punahou has since graduated, leaving the title for Harder to pick up. Kalaheo’s Otero is Gatorade runner of year

Kalaheo’s Colby Otero is Hawaii’s Gatorade cross country runner of the year, the Gatorade Company announced recently. Otero is the first Gatorade Hawaii Boys Cross Country Runner of the Year to be chosen from Kalaheo. The awad recognizes outstanding athletic excellence, but also high standards of academic achievement and exemplary character demonstrated on and off the field. Seabury Hall’s Veronica Winham is the Gatorade Hawaii girls cross country runner of the year for the second time in a row, the Gatorade Company announced recently. Colby Otero is the OIA Eastern Division cross country champion and there may very well be more accolades in store. The Kalaheo senior’s interest in multiple sports might be part of the reason why Otero embraces new ideas. He drinks protein shakes regularly. “After a workout, I’m not going to eat a bag of gummy bears.
