Jones, Lehl win Hawaii Prep meet

Punahou’s Connor Lehl and St. Andrew Priory’s Jordan Jones won their respective races at Saturday’s cross country meet held at Hawaii Preparatory Academy. The Big Island meet attracted outer island runners from the ILH, MIL and OIA. Hawaii Prep, which has one of the toughest courses in the state, will host the state meet on Oct. 29. Lehl outsprinted Kalaheo’s Colby Otero to win the boys 5-kilometer race. Lehl finished in 17 minutes, 59.17 seconds and Otero finished in 17:59.45. […]

Kruse finishes 8th at Arcadia

Kaeo Kruse likes California, all right. The Kamehameha senior posted a 3,000-meter time of 9 minutes, 11 seconds to place eighth at the Arcadia Invitational over the weekend. Kruse was just 5 seconds behind the winner. According to Star-Advertiser preps editor Jerry Campany, Kruse’s time is faster than Steve Ferber’s “long-standing, dominant” 9:20 two-mile from the 1970s. ‘Iolani’s Beaman is Gatorade runner of year

‘Iolani’s Amanda Beaman is the 2015 Hawaii Gatorade girls cross country runner of the year, the Gatorade Company announced Thursday. The award recognizes athletic excellence, academic achievement and exemplary character. Beaman is now a finalist for the national runner of the year. The 5-foot senior raced to an individual state championship on the 3-mile Seabury Hall course on Maui in 18 minutes, 26.7 seconds, leading the Raiders to a third-place finish as a team. Schiller, Griffith are state Heisman winners

Leilehua football player Devin Griffith and Mililani cross country runner Brandee Schiller are Hawaii’s state winners for Wendy’s High School Heisman. Griffith and Schiller are in the running to be named one of 10 national finalists (five males and five femailes). National winners will be chosen Dec. 11. Kamehameha’s Kaeo Kruse ran the fastest three miles since the beginning of the Honolulu Marathon/ HHSAA state cross country championships on the Seabury Hall campus on Saturday. But times are hard to compare given different courses and weather conditions.
