Na Menehune ran their share of dive/draw plays for awhile before Micah Kaneshiro let that pigskin fly with regularity. Castle’s still in a fight for a playoff berth. Moanalua? On a good night, they can scare anybody. A receiving corps like that, plus Kaneshiro’s arm, is a rare treat for most programs.
Castle’s streak of postseason appearances hinges on maintaining its run of success against Kaimuki. The Knights (2-5 overall, 1-4 OIA Red East) travel to Hawaii Kai on Friday to face the Bulldogs (1-6, 0-5) with the conference’s final playoff berth at stake. Senior Brandon “Pono” Makekau rewarded his coach’s faith with some memorable moments on Friday night. The Castle quarterback made good on his first start of the season with 21-for-28 passing for 193 yards and two touchdowns (both to Ikaika Urasaki) and no interceptions in about 2 1/2 quarters of work in a key 21-7 win over McKinley.
