Konawaena lands at No. 21 nationally

After two upset wins over nationally-ranked teams, the Konawaena Wildcats are now on the national spotlight. The CBS MaxPreps Xcellent 25 girls basketball rankings has Konawaena at No. 21 in its latest release on Thursday. Konawaena (13-1) knocked off then-ranked Miramonte (Calif.) 63-62 and Riverdale Baptist (Calif.) 49-41 at the ‘Iolani Classic. Konawaena’s 5-foot-8 and under lineup faced another nationally-ranked team in this ‘Iolani Classic matchup. The Lady Crusaders of Riverdale Baptist features four college prospects and their front line measures at 6-4, 6-2, 6-1 and 6-1. Chanelle Molina scored 22 points to lead the Wildcats (13-0) to an upset victory. Riverdale was ranked No. 1 by MaxPreps and No. 16 by USA Today.

St. Mary’s rejects Konawaena’s upset bid

Anything Konawaena could do, national powerhouse St. Mary’s could do a little better. Almost anything. The Rams from Stockton, Calif. opened a 16-point lead in the second half and then hung on for dear life to beat Konawaena 68-59 in the championship game of the ‘Iolani Classic.
