Konawaena finishes No. 17 nationally

Girls basketball state champion Konawaena has finished at No. 17 in the CBS MaxPreps Xcellent 25 rankings released this week. Konawaena (31-1) scored wins over perennial national powerhouses Riverdale Baptist (Md.) and Miramonte (Calif.) at the ‘Iolani Classic. The Wildcats’ only loss came against St. Mary’s (Calif.) in the Classic final, 68-59. St. Mary’s finished the season at No. 3 in the same rankings list. Molina named Gatorade POY again

Another year, another Gatorade shower for Chanelle Molina. USA Today reports that the Konawaena basketball standout was selected as Gatorade player of the year in Hawaii for the second season in a row. Molina sparked her Wildcats to the Division I state championship in February (17 points, 9 rebounds, 7 assists, 3 steals per game). Gatorade’s firm criteria includes an emphasis in academics.
