Molina commits to Washington State

Konawaena incoming senior Chanelle Molina, the reigning Star-Advertiser All-State girls basketball player of the year, has committed to Washington State, according to a release from Konawaena coach Bobbie Awa. According to the release, Molina had received scholarship offers from more than two dozen Division I programs and narrowed her choices to Washington State, Oregon State, Arizona State and Oregon before committing to the Cougars. Team Stingrays finished in fifth place out of a field of 256 teams today at the End of the Trail Tournament in Oregon City, Ore. It was a solid performance for the Big Island squad comprised largely of players who powered Konawaena to a state championship in girls basketball last February — and coached by Bobbie Awa and staff. Lia Galdeira skips senior year to turn pro

Former state basketball player of the year Lia Galdeira will forego her senior season at Washington State and turn pro. Galdeira, who prepped at Konawaena, will begin her professional basketball career in Europe this fall with hopes of playing in the WNBA. Hawaii Storm to hold summer hoops events

The Hawaii Storm Summer Basketball Camp will be held at the Kaiser High School gym, June 8-11. Sessions run from 8-11 a.m. for boys and girls ages 5-10 and from noon to 3 p.m. for boys and girls ages 11-17. The cost is $130. The 2015 Team Aloha girls basketball roster has been selected, and it has a distinctly neighbor island flavor. Seven of the nine players, selected by team chairman Mufi Hannemann, head coach Fran Villarmia-Kahawai and assistant coach Rodney Cavaco, are from the Big Island and Maui. Maryknoll to host girls hoops camp

Maryknoll will host the Lady Spartans Rise Basketball Camp, April 27-29, for girls in Grades 4-8. The camp will be held at the Maryknoll Community Center at 1526 Alexander St. in Honolulu from 4-8 p.m. each day. The registration fee is $100. HBA hoops camp scheduled for June

Hawaii Baptist Academy is hosting its 21st annual Eagle Hoop Camp, June 2-5 at the school gym. Eagles girls coach Keith Sugiura and boys coach George Weeks, both of whom led their teams to ILH Division II titles last season, are the lead instructors.
