No. 9 is fine with the Lancers Nine

By Paul Honda on December 16, 2015

A flawless 7-0 in preseason play, including wins over D-I Kailua and Roosevelt. An 0-2 start in ILH Division I action. That’s life for the Rocky Balboa of girls basketball programs, Sacred Hearts, and its nine-player roster. The Lancers have been superb, even with losses to Kamehameha and Punahou — both on the road — as Jessica Hanashiro (16 points against Kamehameha) and Pakalana Kam (12 against Punahou) have helped to lead the charge. Ryan Hogue’s mission, aside from operating […]

In this series of What Have We Learned — several bits of posts are coming this afternoon — we take a an early glance at the rise of success building in Mills Gym on the campus of Mid-Pacific Institute. Yes, we have observed the amazingness and spectaculourosity (two words that do not exist, but should) of Chanelle Molina, who helped the Konawaena Wildcats win the ‘Iolani Classic, and Chance Kalaugher, who contributed to Kaiser’s 4-0 record last week, including three […]

LIVE BLOG: Konawaena 62, Bishop O’Dowd 50

By Paul Honda on December 12, 2015

I’m doing the full-house deal with video, stats, running plays in the notebook, yadayada. So I can’t “live blog”, but I’ll update often as possible. Really interesting matchup between Konawaena, a small, but tough and skilled team featuring Washington State recruit Chanelle Molina, and a tall, athletic Dragons squad from Oakland, Calif. (Note: I ended up blogging frequently, so I changed the headline to LIVE BLOG after the game.) FIRST QUARTER Three steals in the first 3 minutes by Konawaena […]
