Bitanga returns as head coach at Kaiser

Simon Bitanga is back in charge of the Kaiser girls basketball team. Bitanga is being investigated for alleged wrongdoing by the Department of Education. According to Lindsay Chambers, a DOE spokesperson, the investigation is in its final stage. “The status for Coach Bitanga has been moved from ‘temporary release as head girls basketball coach’ to ‘head coach, girls basketball,’ ” Chambers wrote in an email to Hawaii Prep World. The Star-Advertiser Girls Basketball Top 10 poll is another unanimous vote for defending state champion Konawaena, which has all 15 first-place clicks at the balloting station. A whirlwind named Shaylee Todani brought a special kind of energy into Leilehua’s 58-49 girls basketball victory over visiting Nanakuli on Friday. The whole first quarter was quiet, with the Mules taking an 8-6 lead. Punahou passed ‘Iolani into the top spot in the latest Honolulu Star-Advertiser Top 10 boys basketball poll. Molina, Quinlan nominated for McDonald’s game

The top two players in last season’s Honolulu Star-Advertiser Fab 15 are now getting some national recognition. Chanelle Molina of Konawaena and Keala Quinlan of Roosevelt were selected as nominees to compete in the 2016 McDonald’s All American Games, which will take place in Chicago, Ill. Konawaena loses in D.C.

Konawaena, ranked No. 7 in the MaxPreps Xcellent 25 national rankings, lost to Forestville Military Academy 60-54 today at the Title IX Holiday Classic in Washington, D.C. It is the first loss of the season after 11 wins for Konawaena, which took the ‘Iolani Classic crown two weeks ago. The Wildcats defeated Mililani (75-22), South Medford (Ore.) (62-48) and Bishop O’Dowd (Calif.) (62-50) at the Classic. More recently, the WIldcats were coming off victories over Pahoa (81-11) and Ka‘u (101-8).

It began with a long throw from Tori Lynn Maeda, who happens to be a softball player. It ended with a dish from Camy Aguinaldo to Skylar Nakata, who sank a baseline shot as time expired to give the ‘Iolani Raiders a 50-49 win over the Kamehameha Warriors.
