Kaiser JV girls basketball coach dismissed

Kaiser junior varsity girls basketball head coach Jaime Nerona has been dismissed for undisclosed reasons, according to Department of Education spokesperson Lindsay Chambers. Under the DOE’s privacy policy, school officials, including athletic directors and principals, are not allowed to discuss personnel details. The dismissal is the latest in a string of controversy at Kaiser. Molina is Gatorade winner for third straight year

Konawaena two-sport standout Chanelle Molina is the Gatorade Hawaii girls basketball player of the year for the third time in a row, the Gatorade Company announced Thursday. Molina, who led the Wildcats to a 26-1 overall record and the state Division I championship, was named the Honolulu Star-Advertiser’s player of the year last week. Molina tops Star-Advertiser Girls Fab 15

As if they needed it, the neighbor islands got another example of its dominance of prep girls basketball. Led by Chanelle Molina again this year, neighbor island girls have been the player of the year in eight of the last nine years. The only exception is Princess Lauvao of Kaimuki in 2013. Konawaena is at No. 24 in MaxPreps

State Division I girls basketball champion Konawaena is at No. 24 in the MaxPreps Xcellent 25 rankings. The Wildcats (15-0 in Hawaii and 27-1 overall) captured their sixth D-I state title since 2004 last week with a 44-34 victory over Maryknoll in the tournament final. The MaxPreps rankings released Feb. 17 are here: http://t.maxpreps.com/1RSuf8f. The Wildcats’ only loss came to No. 8 Forestville (Md.) in Washington D.C.

Robinson Classic releases girls rosters

The third annual Geremy Robinson Senior Classic has announced the girls rosters. The public-school squad is led by Konawaena’s Chanelle Molina and Ihi Victor, who led the Wildcats to their second state title in a row last week. The private-school roster is a mix of ILH and neighbor-island players, including Lahainaluna’s Cameron Fernandez and Keleah-Aiko Koloi.
