Takakusagi, Hines receive NIAAA scholarships

Melia Takakusagi and Raymond Hines were awarded National Interscholastic Athletic Administators Association scholarships at the recent Hawaii Interscholastic Athletic Directors Association conference at the Hilton Waikoloa Villiage earlier this month. Takakusagi participates in air riflery for Waimea and Hines is a water polo player and paddler for Mid-Pacific.

Van Cantfort, Tanaka, Meister earn recognition

Athletic directors Gregory Van Cantfort of Kalani, Harold Tanaka of Farrington and Jeff Meister of Punahou and were given awards for their service in the 2014-15 school year earlier this month at the Hawaii Interscholastic Athletic Directors Association conference at Hilton Waikoloa Village on the Big Island. Van Cantfort received the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators State Award of Merit. Tanaka and Meister were honored with the HIADA Athletic Administrator of the Year award. Waialua, Pac-Five look for new baseball coaches

Two Oahu high schools are looking for varsity baseball coaches. The Honolulu Star-Advertiser and Hawaii Prep World learned this week that Waialua coach Terry Onizuka and Pac-Five coach Dennis Fukunaga will not be returning next season. No reason was given by either Waialua athletic director Bryce Kaneshiro or Pac-Five AD Peter Estomago. Tokunaga to retire as Waianae athletic director

Glenn Tokunaga will go from adminstration of sports at Waianae to watching his kids play more often. Sports has been the name of the game for Tokunaga for a long time, and he won’t have to do as much planning now that he will be retiring as the Waianae athletic director.
