Kaluhiokalani hired as Waianae’s new AD

Kekoa Kaluhiokalani is Waianae’s new athletic director. Kaluhiokalani took over the post in April, succeeding Glenn Tokunaga who stepped down at the end of the 2015 school year. Kevin Nakamoto was the interim athletic director until the official hire of Kaluhiokalani. A former high school football, basketball and baseball player, Kaluhiokalani is a 1990 Waianae graduate. State boosts Hawaii concussion program

Hawaii governor David Ige signed senate bill 2557 into law last week, giving funding to the development and implementation of the concussion monitoring and testing program. The bill, which expanded on act 197, drew testimony in support of it from the College of Education at the University of Hawaii, the Hawaii Athletic Trainers Association, Chris Chun of the HHSAA and Jeaney Garcia of the Positive Coaching Alliance. The intricacies and politics of all-star voting won’t be a burden for Oahu Interscholastic Association coaches any more. The league’s athletic directors council recently voted to end the tradition of coaches selecting all-stars for team sports. The decision reverts the process back to media, in all likelihood. The revolving door continues in full swing for coaches at Kaiser. Head baseball coach Ryan Umemoto is the latest to find himself on the outside. The Cougars administration sent out a job posting, looking for applicants for the head baseball position. For anyone who has been to the Moanalua gym recently, you’ve seen this big, colorful, beautiful new scoreboard. It’s way more than a scoreboard actually.
