Reluctantly, Anuenue decides to end season

It wasn’t an easy decision, but Anuenue’s football season is over. Na Koa will finish the campaign with an 0-9 overall record of which only one loss came on the field. Head coach Kelii Pio Adams confirmed Friday afternoon that the team — at a meeting with players, parents, coaches and administrators Thursday night – has decided to forfeit the remaining games on its schedule due to having just 13 healthy players on the roster. Anuenue is still practicing as a football team, but Na Koa has not been playing in any games due to a lack of available players. Oahu Interscholastic Association football coordinator Harold Tanaka said on Wednesday that the team forfeited its sixth straight game, which was scheduled for Friday against Nanakuli at Roosevelt’s Ticky Vasconcellos Stadium. Anuenue still not ready, forfeits fifth game

Anuenue will forfeit this weekend’s scheduled game against Kalani, the fifth straight contest it has bowed out of. The school, which forfeited three games last year, opened the season with a 62-0 loss to St. Francis and has not had enough healthy players to suit up for a league game yet. Pearl City football coach Robin Kami said Wednesday that the Chargers’ game against Anuenue scheduled for Friday has been canceled. Anuenue forfeited its third game of the season, coach Keli‘i Pio Adams confirmed Thursday night. The Hawaiian immersion school from the Oahu Interscholastic Association Division II has 19 available players on its 23-person roster, but most of them are underclassmen.
