Sacred Hearts clinched the ILH precision air rifle championship on Saturday. The Lancers tied with Punahou for first place with a 6-1 record, but won the the season-average tiebreaker for the title. St. Francis’ Isabel Villanueva scored 383, the highest score in Saturday’s ILH precision air riflery matches. Villanueva’s 383 came in a win over Saint Louis. That was fun. It’s not often that little quirks in fundamentals lead to championship-level performance, but that’s exactly the case with St. Francis seniors Isabel Villanueva and Toni Silva. Punahou senior Dean Rodan tied the ILH Sporter Air Riflery record on Saturday in a victory over Kamehameha. Rodan will compete in the ILH championships next Saturday at Mid-Pacific. Rodan’s three-position score of 279 tied the mark set by Kamehameha’s Keanu Paikai on Oct. 2, 2010. Paikai won the state championship that year and followed it with another title in 2011.
