Nerdpod: Receivers v3.0

By Paul Honda on October 7, 2016

It’s the opening week of the OIA Division I playoffs, OIA D-II regular season is still in session, ILH is still battling for playoff positions, KIF and BIIF nearing the playoffs. And only the third installment of Nerdpod WRs. Some additions to the list that I wish I could’ve added in previous editions. Only so many hours in the day and I just haven’t been drinking as much coffee as usual. But here goes and, yes, previous nerdpodded receivers have […]

OIA playoff mania: Aiea at Leilehua

By Nick Abramo on October 6, 2016

Below is the SECOND of Hawaii Prep World’s four-part quick look at the first round of the Oahu Interscholastic Association Division I football playoffs Friday and Saturday. This year, things are quite a bit different. In years past, teams playing in the first round faced elimination and also had a chance to move on. Now, the first-round losers are still eliminated, but the first-round winners gain a spot in the state tournament. The following week, the quarterfinal winners lock up […]

Nerdpod: Running Backs v2.0

By Paul Honda on October 6, 2016

NERDPOD: Running backs v2.0 The Star-Advertiser and Hawaii Prep World’s Paul Honda breaks down some of the best running backs in the state. Why do I start again with running backs instead of receivers or quarterbacks? I suppose, well, it’s not that RB is my favorite position, or that they’re better as a group. It’s probably because even in this era of mostly single-back offenses, it is still an important, sometimes nearly impossible position to master. Between all the pass […]

GAME NIGHT 9/30: Aiea/Moanalua

By Hawaii Prep World on September 30, 2016

The regular season begins to wind down Friday night with the OIA Division I playoffs set to begin next week. Moanalua (3-4, 2-4 OIA Blue) hosts Aiea (3-4, 3-3) with fourth place on the line. Why is that a big deal? The winner likely hosts an OIA first-round playoff game (unless OC-16 gets involved) while the loser would have to go on the road next week. Moanalua is coming off a 42-0 loss to Kahuku last week which marked the […]

Aiea at Moanalua football will start at 6 p.m.

By Nick Abramo on September 29, 2016

Friday night’s Aiea at Moanalua varsity football game will start at 6 p.m., according to Na Menehune athletic director Joel Kawachi. The game was originally scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m., directly following the now-cancelled junior varsity contest. Kawachi said the change was “due to Aiea not fielding a JV team.” Moanalua’s senior night festivities are planned for before the varsity game. The winner of the Na Alii vs. Na Menehune game will get earn the Oahu Interscholastic Association’s fourth […]

Kim Choy-Keb-Ah Lo does it all for Aiea

By Jeremy Nitta on September 24, 2016

Kame Kim Choy-Keb-Ah Lo literally stands out. At 6-3, he is the tallest listed player on Aiea’s football roster, towering over his teammates, who average around 5-6 to 5-8 in height. Additionally, his long last name is somewhat eye-catching to someone studying the Aiea roster. But on the field, Kim Choy-Keb-Ah Lo has emerged as a standout as well. The senior has become something of an ironman for Na Alii, lining up as a receiver, defensive back, placekicker, and punter. […]
