By Paul Honda on May 5, 2021

They did exactly that in a 25-22, 25-20 sweep of Punahou, on the Buffanblu’s home court, to capture the Interscholastic League of Honolulu girls volleyball championship on Tuesday night. Every Warrior had “FTP” written on her wrist, a motto to honor the founder of Kamehameha Schools, Princess Bernice Pauahi Bishop. Each time a Warriors went up to swing or block, “FTP” in black ink was above the net by […]

Still, when Punahou hosts Kamehameha for the Interscholastic League of Honolulu girls volleyball title tonight, the Buffanblu won’t be star-struck. Punahou (8-1) split with the Warriors during the regular season and earned the top seed in the single-elimination playoff tournament. Behind the versatility and consistency of their 6-footers, Punahou swept a game Le Jardin squad on Saturday night to reach the final. Kamehameha […]

Nive Tuileta’s roof ends Le Jardin’s wild playoff win over Mid-Pacific

By Paul Honda on April 29, 2021

The Mid-Pacific Owls were in one of the strangest, happiest predicaments of the time warp known as the ILH girls volleyball spring 2021 season. Despite four out-of-rotation violations in the third and deciding set, fifth-seeded Mid-Pacific served on match point, leading 24-23 against the home team, fourth-seeded Le Jardin. Then, the unthinkable happened again. Another rotation violation, their fifth of the third set, gave the Bulldogs another free point, tying the set at 24. “I know a lot of us […]

Brian Taniguchi announced on Wednesday that $18 million in funding has been approved for a new gym at the school. That allows the plan to include underground parking. “The initial funding was available two years ago, $19 million, but you still have to do the planning and design. We found […]

By Paul Honda on April 15, 2021

Kamehameha’s 25-18, 26-24 win over previously unbeaten Punahou on Thursday night begins a new chapter in the rivalry between the two girls volleyball powerhouse programs. With the key win, the Warriors moved into a first-place tie with the previously unbeaten Buffanblu at 5-1 in the Interscholastic League of Honolulu standings. “For us I think it was […]
