Roundball Skills wins Fab 48 title

Roundball Skills Academy defeated Vegas Elite White 61-38 today to capture the Girls 15-Under Division at the Las Vegas Fab 48 tournament. Members of the team are: Kylie Bagay, Taylor Hange, Heaven Hense-Dorroh, Namahana Keao Young, Ta’ Niyan Latson, Dominique Pacheco, Angle Pauole, Kayla Tansiongco and Hanah Urbano. The games for Girls 15U were played at Faith Lutheran High School. RSA, coached by Marco Johnson, began pool play on Wednesday with a 62-48 over the same Vegas Elite White team. […]

Hoop Dreams wins AVAC/Swoosh title

Hoop Dreams of the Big Island captured the Freshman/Sophomore Boys championship at the Antelope Valley Athletic Club (AVAC)/Swoosh Las Vegas Tune-Up Tournament. The event was played at Cypress College (Anaheim, Calif.). In pool play, Hoop Dreams defeated Hoop City 42-13 and OC Swoosh 49-21. In the semifinals, Hoop Dreams defeated California Stars 8-6 in a game that was terminated by officials due to bench conduct by a Stars assistant coach. Hoop Dreams then beat AVAC Ballerz 57-44 in the finals. […]


Islanderz win top division at Cal Storm tourney

The Islanderz girls basketball team had a phenomenal performance that was hotter than July. The Islanderz, coached by Scott Cambra, went 5-0 in the Cal Storm tournament’s highest division, Showcase/Diane Taurusi. That netted the team from Oahu co-championship honors with EBO Black in the nine-team division, which had no playoff bracket. The Hawaii Storm girls basketball team outlasted Team Kwik (Texas) 37-29 to capture the 17-Under Cairo Division title at the Nike Tournament of Champions in Chicago last week. Members of the Storm are: Shayla Cabato-Machado (Farrington), Paige Fahrni (Mid-Pacific), Mandi Kawaha (Hilo), Brilie Kovaloff (Mid-Pacific), Dallas Martinez (Sacred Hearts), TeHiwa Medeiros (Sacred Hearts), Dahlis Sablay (Mililani) and Taylor Wu (‘Iolani). Wright replaces Ah-Hoy in Robinson Classic

Kahuku center Taimona Wright will replace Kesi Ah-Hoy at the Geremy Robinson Senior Classic. Brandyn Akana, who coached both players at Kahuku, made the announcement on Thursday. Wright is a 6-foot-4 senior who has an accurate mid-range jumper and played a supporting role in Kahuku’s ascent to the state championship. The Geremy Robinson Senior Basketball Classic will be played at Neal Blaisdell Center on Saturday. Previous exhibition games pitting high school seniors were held at Moanalua.
