De’Zhaun Stribling does it all as Kapolei smashes No. 10 Kamehameha

By Nick Abramo on September 28, 2019

De’Zhaun Stribling did it all for Kapolei, scoring a touchdown passing, receiving and rushing in a 27-3 drubbing of No. 10 Kamehameha at the Hurricanes’ home field on Friday night. Stribling, a receiver by trade, put on his rushing shoes and also tested his arm. Aside from all of the measurables (6-foot-2, 195 pounds, 4.5 speed) and the fact that he is shifty like a fox, one of Stribling’s greatest assets is his ruggedness. Rarely (if ever) do you see […]

Quarterback Kyler Dicion keeps Waialua in playoff hunt

By Brian McInnis on September 28, 2019

All eyes were on Kyler Dicion. The Waialua quarterback had already put together the finest passing game of his career — three touchdowns, no interceptions and 283 yards in the air in the Bulldogs’ 49-14 homecoming/senior night victory over McKinley. But this moment was important. He wanted to nail it. And he did. Dicion, the first up of a dozen Waialua seniors during postgame ceremonies, shredded the Bulldogs’ traditional “senior agility test” put on by coach Lincoln Barit and his staff. […]

Koali Nishigaya adds to his player of the year case for No. 1 Saint Louis

By Paul Honda on September 28, 2019

Shades of Mitchell Quinn. Two years ago, it was Quinn who emerged out of the depth chart to become a gamebreaker and playmaker for Saint Louis. The lanky wide receiver transformed into an All-State selection and Washington State recruit after being largely unheard of. Koali Nishigaya wasn’t exactly buried on the bench, but his explosion of late is quite Quinn-esque. The 5-foot-6, 165-pound senior was virtually untouchable at times, breaking off a 75-yard touchdown catch and run before halftime, then […]

‘Iolani’s Lanakila Pei given well-earned respect on the football field

By Billy Hull on September 27, 2019

‘Iolani senior Lanakila Pei was one of three captains for the Raiders in their homecoming game against Radford on Friday afternoon at Kozuki Stadium. He is respected by his teammates, his coaches and even his opponents. It is why after fumbling twice on punt returns against the Rams, the only one who was down was him. His teammates had his back. “I haven’t fumbled since Pop Warner,” said Pei, a 6-foot safety/linebacker who was recently selected to the Polynesian Bowl. […]
